College Football Season Wins

Novice sports handicappers sometimes overlook the value which an be found in betting college football season win totals. The professional capper, however, realizes the linemaker sometimes leaves an opening or two, partially perhaps due to the fact that players are hesitant to invest a portion of their bankroll in a season-long proposition.
Over the past several years, I have performed well against the season win numbers in college football. Without further ado, here are five season win plays for 2007:
SYRACUSE UNDER 4.5 WINS (minus 1.05) - Now in his third year, former University of Texas and NFL defensive coordinator Greg Robinson appears to be in over his coaching head in the up-and-coming Big East. The 'Cuse has no playmakers on offense (averaged just 17.4 points per game last year and 13.8 ppg in 2005) and also loses its top defensive player, all-conference LB Kelvin Smith, to the NFL. The only sure-fire victory on the schedule is a home date against lowly Buffalo.
MARYLAND UNDER 7 (minus 1.35) - A five-game, mid-season winning streak propelled the Terrapins to a 9-4 record last year. Amazingly, none of the five wins during the streak were by more than six points, with the victories coming by an average of just 2.2 points. Maryland was actually out-gained in all five of those victories . The market will likely correct this year on the issue of narrow escapes and, to compound matters, two-year starting QB Sam Hollenbach has exhausted his eligibility.
ARKANSAS UNDER 8.5 (minus 1.85) - The Razorbacks feature arguably the top tailback tandem in the nation in Heisman Trophy candidate Darren McFadden and Felix Jones who combined to rush for more than 2,800 yards last season. Unfortunately, Arkansas has some significant questions entering 2007, including some holes in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The early defections of all-conference defenders, DE Jamaal Anderson and CB Marcus Houston to the NFL means the Razorbacks' defense will be well below last year's standard.
NOTRE DAME UNDER 7.5 (minus 1.75) - The Fighting Irish's 2007 starting offensive and defensive lineups are littered with top shelf recruits who were courted by the upper echelon of college football's elite class. Now the kicker: Many of those blue-chip recruits are considerably closer to their high school graduation than their 21st birthday. Notre Dame's starting 22 could include nine sophomores or below. Also, seven of the Irish's first eight opponents were in bowl games one season ago.
IOWA STATE UNDER 4 (minus 1.35) - The good news for new Cyclone head coach Gene Chizik is his club may very well open the season with a 2-0 record after contests against Kent State and Northern Iowa. The bad news is the Cyclones may be hard pressed to win two more games the rest of the year. Iowa State allowed 31 points or more in five of its last six games last year. And even Chizik, who fashioned killer stop units as defensive coordinator at Auburn and then Texas, will not be able to work similar magic with the talent on hand in 2007.
