"Laws of Motion" proof behind their swing techniques.
Not only was I
driven to know this by the "DNA" that is inherent in all engineers that has to
understand how everything in the world works, I was also driven by the "macho"
side of me weighing in at over 200lbs and being physically strong all my life
that felt if they can do this I can do better!
This lead me to

swing. I thought, surely, any system that moves can be explained by the “laws of
motion”.
My search turned
up material that falls into two categories. Both of which I found
unsatisfactory.
The first is so

The second is so
technically over complex that the average golfer would have no clue about what
was being described and is generally written by authors who know very little
about the techniques of the swing to provide any practical guidance.
This nagging need
for a satisfactory explanation drove me to do my own analysis.
I applied simple
high school physics to the different areas of motion where energy could be
generated in the swing from the ground up. I reviewed the mechanics of the swing
as an organic system of levers, joints and motors, just as I would analyzing any
other mechanical system.
I was completely
amazed at the outcome and I am kicking myself for not going through this
exercise years earlier! It turned my thinking on the golf swing completely on
its head and has altered my methods for teaching golf.
Not only was I
clear on where power was generated in the swing, but the bigger realization that
hit me was just "how much energy" in the
swing could be
lost due to physical restrictions of the body that most golfers totally
overlook.
There was
also this further realization. The trends in the golf industry are driving the
average golfer to seek more distance by slogans such as "how to swing like the
pros" which is sending the wrong message and encouraging golfers to swing well
beyond their physical capabilities.

There are no "secrets" to the golf swing as many

little about the true mechanics of the golf swing, or how energy and

swing is a swing range in which you are in full control of all the
moving parts of your body that satisfy the fundamental requirements
for a successful shot. As long as you swing within this range, your
ball striking will be consistent. On the other hand if you continue
to swing beyond this range:
You will always experience failure
Your natural
swing range is also the range of motion in which all the
requirements for generating maximum energy and swing power are
satisfied.
The less moving parts the more
reliable the system
Much of my technique in teaching golf has been influenced by my
technical background
analyzing the reliability of mechanical systems, and my years of
experience with teaching complex skills in the engineering world.
I use the concept of
"the less moving parts, the more reliable the system" when analyzing
any system. The same can be said for the golf swing which is an
"organic" system. The fewer body parts that are in motion, the more
reliable the swing.
I review the mechanics of the golf swing with you,
using very simple, easy to understand language in a 3 step
approach, to help you determine the reliability of your own
swing.
At the end of this analysis, you will not only
clearly understand how the mechanics of the golf swing work,
but you will also know why certain elements are so important.

going to get into a lot of engineering technical jargon. Far from

governed by simple high school physics using the laws of motion
defined by Sir Isaac Newton many years ago. Understanding these laws

understanding of the mechanics of the golf swing and a roadmap for

Newton were alive today he would be one heck of a golf instructor!
