‘I thoroughly enjoyed reading Jackie Chin’s “EXTRAORDINARY HANDS”. This book is a collection of stories from Jackie’s experiences as a palmist. It is aimed at 3 types of readers:
The man and woman in the street People with “just a bit” of interest in palmistry Experienced palmists who will see this as a very ‘pleasant read’
The handprints are well illustrated and she certainly has some rare collections of unusual prints behind the book which deserved further investigation. Even though this is a very simple book, it has a bit of a “more serious stuff” in it.
I read every palmistry book, but I do not think I have enjoyed one as much as I enjoyed this one. It is fun to read! It is pleasant, entertaining and a readable book. Few books achieve all this. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jackie Chin is an international palmist, author and speaker. She worked in the cruise liners (Star Cruises) for fifteen years, reading thousands of hands of people from all over the world. Jackie’s works had also been featured in the local and international press.
Jackie has finally expanded her lifelong work in her debut book, “International Palmist On A Cruise – EXTRAORDINARY HANDS”. This book is conceded to be one of the most unique works in this century on the subject of scientific hand reading. It veers away from the conventional format of palmistry – bringing you to a new level of insight and understanding that reflects our contemporary time and lifestyle.
JACKIE ON A CRUISE
‘I grew up in Petaling Jaya, a satellite city in the state of Selangor to the west of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My quest for knowledge of myself led me to an important meeting with WoonKee Fee, a veteran Malaysian palmist.
Woon then introduced me to the late John Benedict, a renowned palmist in the United Kingdom. Many questions were answered when John sent me a tape with his assessment of my handprints. It was amazing. Without a face-to-face meeting, he read me so well and understood me more than my parents. After that, I developed a keen interest in the subject and a passion in helping others discover their lives too.
Since 1996 when I started reading palms, I have travelled extensively and participated in many Holistic Fairs/Festivals and earnestly promoted my work in the corporate world.
Since 1999, I have worked on the fleet of Star Cruises (Asia-Pacific’s foremost cruise liners) as guest speaker/palmist.
This is my dream job. I have always wanted to work and travel. The floating resort has taken me to Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, Bali and East Malaysia. I have dived into the exalted waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Green Islands, Isle of Pine, New Caledonia, Whitsunday Islands and Papua New Guinea. The journeys have been educational as well as an eye-opener.
The generosity of the many people I met onboard the ships as well as on land enabled me to enjoy their great stories and insights. My first book, “International Palmist On A Cruise – EXTRAORDINARY HANDS’ is a compilation of these stories. It is through people’s lives we learn successful stories and hard lessons; and it is through their hands we have a better understanding of the workings of human nature.
Palmistry not only allows me to learn new things from others, but also about myself. When you start to see all kinds of hands, you are reminded of the importance of gratitude for the many blessings in life that are often overlooked and taken for granted. Look into people’s hands and you begin to know the many good things you possess at home.
I have now scaled down my travelling and reading, and spend time with my family and my parents who are living well into their eighties. Any spare time is devoted to spiritual work.’

1. Why and how did you become a palmist?

The calling never crossed my mind. It was not planned. I could not see it coming. My early life was fraught with difficulties and obstacles. This spurred me into a lot of soul-searching for answers.
Local fortune tellers were unable to provide enlightened answers.
By sheer good chance, I met a veteran palmist Woon Kee Fee in Kuala Lumpur. His dedication and passion for palmistry led me into the practice.
Woon introduced me to John Benedict, a renowned palmist in United Kingdom. Both John and Woon became my teachers. When John died in 2001, the world lost one of the best palmists.
2. Why do you say that?
John’s expertise in palmistry led to the discovery of high-quality prints which enhance the accuracy of palm-reading. John’s definition of the personality and character of the hand deepened the understanding of the working of human nature. These two elements are crucial for any successful palm reading session.
3. Who are your clients?

Anybody. From maids to business executives and professionals. People who are stuck in a rut and have a vague sense of not knowing how to improve their lives will come around.
People who know that a wealth of information can be at their disposal by consulting the hands, they will come too. It is a well-known fact that many psychic readers in the world are patronized by royalty families, heads of state, judges, captains of industry and celebrities.
4. How do you know palmistry works and why?
I know it works when top corporate executives who never believed in palmistry, were moved to concede its accuracy by starting to introduce members of their family to a reading.
Just as a palaeontologist is able to reconstruct the life and history of early civilization by studying fossils and bones, a palmist can tell a story by putting together the signs and symbols marked out in the hand.
5. What was your greatest reading experience and what was your most difficult?

One of the greatest reading experiences was talking to individuals who can get something good out of palm reading to make changes in their lives to have the desired result. Many who came at the beginning were disorganized and discouraged. You derived greatest satisfaction knowing that they have become focused, confident and successful after they have knowledge of their own hands. My greatest reading experience was with an individual who aborted thoughts of suicide.
One of the most difficult reading experiences comes from people whose palms are sweaty or obscured by very fine lines. You cannot see the clarity of signs and symbols which greatly impaired the progress of analysis of the hands. But dealing with close minded and prejudiced people will be my most difficult experience.
6. Is there any age-limit to palm-reading?
No, not really. My oldest client was 92 and youngest, a month- old baby. Reading the hands of babies are most difficult as they are always closing their hands tightly and moving. You will be surprised that even at that young age, infants have their quality of life already mapped out. If they come from a good family background and are dearly loved by their parents, the general markings on the hands are normally strong and good.
Reading the hands of the aged can be challenging for the palmist. There will be a bit of tension discussing their heroic past, but they must now come to terms with their debilitating health and the question of longevity.
7. Do you get more female clients than male? What are their common topics?

Again the answer is no, although a slightly larger proportion of my clients are female. As a matter of fact, because business, success and money are the core issues affecting a person’s general well-being, I have a lot of men scheduling for appointments.
Women, on the other hand, are more inclined to ask about their love-life, relationship and marriage.
8. What is the most popular question asked during a palm-reading session?
Vocational guidance on children’s hands is a popular topic. Parents who spend a lifetime slogging to raise funds for their children’s education, can be frustrated to find their children dropping out of college or university or unable to secure a job after their graduation.
More and more parents are bringing their children to have their hands checked so that their innate nature can be identified to match an appropriate career path and to find success.
9. Some people confuse palmistry with fortune-telling. What is your answer to that?

Fortune-telling is a method of predicting information about a person’s life. Palmistry is one of the methods through the study of the hand.
In Asian cultures, fortune-telling is commonly perceived as a means to predict luck, windfall, monetary gains and events of auspiciousness. Palmistry goes further than that by providing information about the individual’s character and personality; so that the person is well-equipped with self-understanding. Understanding yourself is the first step to a firm foundation on which to build a better life.
10. How do you deal with sceptics?

Naturally they would laugh their hearts out over the idea of palm-reading. They do not believe in things out of the ordinary and cannot see a study which can throw light on a person’s life.
It will be rather difficult to convince a sceptic to do a palm-reading unless he maintains an open mind and relents. Only then can the palmist map out the truth which the sceptic can verify for himself.
11. What must one do before a palm-reading?

Relax and maintain an open mind. A relaxed mind is willing to listen and comprehend. An open mind is inclined to respect views that differ from its own, allowing opportunity to be unfolded.
