All through life I was the skinny kid that looked awkward, at least I felt that way. Throughout middle and high school that was my self-view.
Despite lifting weights three times a week and eating healthy I could not gain muscle.
No matter what I seemed to do in the pursuit to develop bigger muscles, I failed miserably.
Now I saw gains, but they happened over long periods of time and they were slow to show, and made me want to quit working out altogether.
But I stuck with it.

You Aren't Eating Enough.
There are too many guys out there who have similar body structures of 12 year old girls. They workout, they drink their protein shakes, and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. But still no positive results come from doing this. Why? Well, I can only talk about my personal experience, but I can bet you it’s because they’re not eating enough. Let me make something clear right now, supplements do not replace good nutrition. I don’t know where this crazy idea came from, but if you aren’t taking in the right amounts of calories and eating the right foods, there’s just no way you can get big. Believe me, I learned the hard way.

Diet Is Not Balanced
Not many people are concerned about their macronutrient intake. Not many people know what macronutrients are! They are the most important things you should be concerned when eating to gain muscle. They are proteins, carbs, and fats. And all of them have a place in muscle growing and getting your daily amount of each can make the difference between gaining muscle and hitting the wall and not gaining anything.

You Don’t Have A Plan
A car without a driver is nothing more than a hunk of junk, with POTENTIAL energy. That’s exactly how you should view your diet. If you have no direction, no plan, then you might as well give up now because no matter what you do, you will always be under the highest potential you can achieve. I deeply believe in having goals and having plans in order to achieve those goals. So if you skip the step of getting a game plan then your “team” is going to lose badly, I promise.

Gain More Fat Than Muscle
There are some guys out there, you probably know of a few, that have big egos because they think they are muscular. But let me tell you something, fat doesn’t mean you’re The Man. It just means you like to eat and you’re just a D!@#. Just because you have fat it doesn’t mean you’re A, healthy, and B you didn’t put in any effort it would have took in order to build lean muscle. These guys are often arrant and put people down. Well, at least that’s been my experience with them. Don’t be these guys. Yes, in some cases putting on some fat is necessary, but that is only one way to achieve the body that you desire, there’s actually several different ways.

Aren’t Consistent
I believe consistency is the result of will and inspiration. If you aren’t consistent with working out, dieting, and allowing your body to heal then you will not go anywhere with your progress. You should set several different times during each day that you eat something and do this everyday. You should also set the time you will workout everyday as well. This will put you into a routine and you will be less likely to make an excuse or give up entirely on your goals. Guys that are inconsistent with their efforts, receive inconsistent results.
