I have compiled an invaluable group of sight words and high frequency words. Print them off as cards to practice word recognition with your child. Sight words are those that are difficult to decode and sound out phonetically. A good example is the word ‘was’. If a child tries to sound this word phonetically, it would be pronounced ‘W-A-Z’ instead of “W-O-S”. It is important that children learn to read these words by sight. Children need regular exposure to these words in order to read them. That way, when they get to school, they are not confronted with confusing words that can diminish their confidence.
These sight words and high frequency words also come in a dashed font for your child to practice WRITING these words too!
Also in this pack are high frequency words most commonly found in children’s literature and books. Examples include am, at, the etc.
