ENLIGHTENED AID: YOUR ALL NATURAL FIRST AID KIT
With many health experts beginning to question the safety of
traditional medicine and over-the-counter remedies, a large portion of
people are turning towards natural remedies and alternative medicine
for their health needs. Now even if you haven't jumped on the
alternative medicine train, these items may be a great supplement to
your traditional medical system.
This list of multipurpose herbal remedies is specifically for for
minor illnesses, scrapes and irritations that can be merely irritating
at first, but could easily turn serious, if not life threatening if
untreated.
YOUR ALL NATURAL FIRST-AID KIT
1. ALOE VERA GEL
Cooling and healing, aloe vera soothes the inflammation of sunburn
and mild kitchen burns.
2. EUCALYPTUS ESSENTIAL OIL
A potent antibiotic and antiviral, eucalyptus is excellent for
treating colds and sinus infections when used as a steam inhalation.
3. WITCH HAZEL EXTRACT
Distilled witch hazel has reported astringent, antiseptic and
anti-inflammatory properties, useful for treating insect bites and
skin irritations. It’s also an excellent base for diluting essential
oils for topical application. Do not take it internally.
4. ELDERBERRY CAPSULES OR LIQUID EXTRACT
Elderberries can help prevent cold and flu viruses from invading and
infecting cells. If you’re flying or otherwise potentially exposed
to viruses, taking elderberry is a good preventive. If you come down
with a cold or flu, elderberry can hasten your recovery time.
5. ARNICA GEL OR CREAM
Arnica flowers have anti-inflammatory and circulation-stimulating
properties; the gel or cream may help relieve sore muscles, sprains,
strains and bruises. WARNING: Do not apply arnica to broken skin.
6. GRINDELIA POISON IVY TREATMENT

help relieve the symptoms of plant rashes such as poison ivy and
poison oak.
7. GINGER CAPSULES, TEA BAGS OR CRYSTALLIZED GINGER
The antispasmodic and gas-relieving properties of ginger soothe
digestive upsets. Ginger also has been shown to relieve motion
sickness better than Dramamine, the conventional drug treatment.
8. ECHINACEA LIQUID EXTRACT
Rich in phytochemicals that boost immunity, versatile liquid
echinacea extract can be used internally to treat infections and
externally for wounds and burns.
9. CALENDULA/COMFREY SALVE
With calendula’s antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and
comfrey’s ability to help heal wounds, this salve is perfect for
minor cuts and scrapes.
10. GOLDENSEAL CAPSULES OR POWDER
A powerful antimicrobial, goldenseal is effective against a variety
of microorganisms that cause traveler’s diarrhea. The powder also
has antiseptic properties and can be sprinkled onto cuts or wounds to
stop bleeding. Do not use during pregnancy.
11. LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL
Uplifting, clarifying lemon essential oil can be used as aromatherapy
to help dispel mental fatigue. It is also antiseptic, but should be
diluted before being applied to the skin.
12. PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL AND TEA BAGS
Peppermint soothes an upset stomach, eases congestion from the common
cold and curbs itching from insect bites. If you have sensitive skin,
dilute peppermint oil before applying. Peppermint tea may aggravate
heartburn.

An excellent adaptogen, eleuthero can help prevent jet lag.
Standardized extracts guarantee you’re getting sufficient amounts of
eleutherosides, the herb’s active compounds.
14. LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

properties. It’s helpful for anxiety, insomnia, headaches, wounds
and burns. Most people can tolerate lavender essential oil applied
directly to the skin. Do not take more than 1 to 2 drops internally.
15. CHAMOMILE TEA BAGS
Gentle enough for children, chamomile tea promotes relaxation,
relieves indigestion and, applied topically, soothes skin irritations.
16. HERBAL INSECT REPELLENT
Herbal insect repellents work well when applied liberally and
frequently.
17. VALERIAN TINCTURE
The sedative properties of valerian make it useful for relieving
anxiety, insomnia and tension; it may also provide mild pain relief.

10 GREAT USES FOR WOOD ASH
In an emergency, chances are you're going to be burning a lot of
wood. Whether for heat, cooking, morale, lighting wood fires will most
likely be a regular part of life. This means you'll probably have a
seemingly endless supply of what seems to be useless wood ash. We as
any good survivalist knows, no item is even useless - especially when
resources are limited. So before you throw all that ash off to the
side, here's 10 great uses for your fire's byproduct that you can use
today or in a SHTF scenerio.
1. De-skunk pets. A handful of ash rubbed on Fido's coat neutralizes
the lingering odor.
2. Hide stains on paving. By sprinkling ash directly on the spot.
3. Enrich compost. Before the organic compound get applied to soil,
enhance its nutrients by sprinkling in a few ashes. Adding too much,
though, ruins the mix.
4. Block garden pests. Spread evenly around garden beds, ash repels
slugs and snails.
5. Melt ice. It adds traction and de-ices without hurting soil or
concrete underneath.
6. Control pond algae. One tablespoon per 1,000 gallons adds enough
potassiumm to strengthen other aquatic plants that compete with algae,
slowing its growth.
7. Pump up tomatoes. For the calcium-loving plants, place 1/4 cup
right in the hole when planting.
8. Clean glass fireplace doors. A damp sponge dipped in the dust
scrubs away sooty residue.
9. Make soap. Soaking ashes in water makes lye, which can be mixed
with animal fat and then boiled to produce soap. Salt makes it harden
as it cools.
10. Shine silver. A paste of ash and water makes a dandy nontoxic
metal polisher.

TOP ITEMS FOR YOUR BUG-OUT BAG… BOOKS?
When many preppers think of an emergency, they generally think of one
thing - a bag that contain enough supplies (food, clothes, emergency
supplies and water) to last you 3 days. Better known as a , this could
be one of the most crucial piece of equipment in your house. The
average person probably doesn't have one of these bags and if they do,
they don't update or regularly maintain their bag at all. However, in
times of distress, the items in your Bugout bag, could save your life.
WHAT CONSTITUTES A BUG-OUT BAG?
Certainly, there are many items you may require in an emergency, the
most prominent being the water (the heaviest item in the bag as well).
There are other essential items such as emergency lights, batteries,
clothes, radios, food, tools, etc. But what use is this when you can't
find your way? If that's the case, a map book may turn out to be the
best thing in the bag!
In the event of a disaster, your tablet, laptop or smart phone might
not work after a matter of days once all battery life has been
depleted. Modern day wars mean that a single wave can render all your
electronic devices completely useless. So keep that possibility in
mind while planning and packing your bug-out bag. Though you may have
never consider it before - Books can serve a great purpose once you
are off the grid. Knowledge is power, but if your brain isn't loaded
with all the skills, information and know-how that you need, there are
many types of books that will come in real handy in a disaster.
MAP BOOKS AND TREKKING INFORMATION
In event of a disaster, natural or man-made, people are left to fend
for themselves without any help from modern day marvels. Satellite
navigation and smart phones might not work properly. In such as a
case, you need to keep an updated map in your bag. This should clearly
show the various rivers, mountains, roads, shelter camps, and major
buildings of your area. The navigation and markings on the ma must be
regularly updated. This can help you navigate and then meet other
survivors. You do not have to rely on trial and error and perhaps save
other lives as well.
MEDICAL AND FIRST AID BOOKS
Injuries and accidents are part of disasters. Medical books
containing remedial measures in layman's language can be of a great
help. Simple books that teach how to provide first aid, treat broken
bones, prevent sprain are easily available online. Also, these books
provide you a basic understanding of the human anatomy to cure
illnesses during survival period. To compliment your medical book, a
well-maintained first aid kit is also crucial.
SURVIVAL BOOKS
When it comes to survival, every tip counts. Countless books guiding
people on survival are available on the market. Just know your
requirements and choose wisely. While buying survival books, give
consideration to your geography, potential disasters and disaster
budget. For e.g. if you live in a desert region, there is no point
buying a hurricane survival book. Also, survival books contain
valuable information regarding food and health. It must contain
recipes to be prepared from packed food and also probable sources of
foods in a jungle. Make sure you read online reviews before
purchasing.
Your bug out bag survival book must be chosen carefully. If you are
not an ex-marine or a serious survivalist you would want to grab one
that details everything. It should contain all the information
regarding how to find water and how to use conventional magnetic
compass.
Your bug out bag should contain survival equipment that reflects the
lifestyle of caveman. All you need initially is food, water and
shelter. Once you achieve these, you can then return to pursue higher
civilized needs. A comprehensive bug out bag should sail you through a
disaster as it is meant to be.
Luckily, in just a few short weeks - we will be releasing a book that
will surely fill the void thats currently missing in your survival
plan.
