The Operation:
op·er·a·tion (noun): the power to act; the ability to produce a desired or intended result.
A step-by-step, easy to understand mission, with the goal of putting you on track to earning six figures as an internet entrepreneur.

This week is going to be challenging. Prepare yourself mentally, because at some point you will struggle. Development is the most technically challenging part about creating a website. Having the knowledge to essentially create something from nothing is a skill which must be taught. It's like learning a new language; completely foreign to many. Those who succeed in the field are the ones who learn, practice, and understand. This week we will venture into a new world. A complex world that can take years to understand. If you get get stuck, don't try to guess your way out. Rewind. Take a step back and find your error. My goal this week is to help you scrape the surface of this enormous industry and provide you with at least enough knowledge to help you create and launch successful websites without any help!

Today you will be installing a CMS. According to plone.com:
A content management system, or CMS, is a web application designed to make it easy for non-technical users to add, edit and manage a website.
Not only do content management systems help website users with content editing, they also take care of a lot of "behind the scenes" work such as:
Automatically generate navigation elements
Making content searchable and indexable
Keeping track of users, their permissions and security settings
And much, much more.”
Websites used to be hand-coded (written completely by hand). Luckily today, you do not have to re-invent the wheel when creating a website. In this day and age, free tools exist all over the web that have been created to help you design and develop great things! CMS is one of them. In fact, CMS software is implemented by a vast majority of websites ranging from tiny to enormous and complex systems. Even the U.S. Government website is built using a CMS! There are several CMSs', but the most famous and widely used are:

The real technical development work should be done! By now you should have your database set up, full access to your FTP via FileZilla, and Joomla CMS installed and running. If you go to your website right now and see a blank page or an error message, go back a couple days and start from scratch (no one said this road was easy). So here we stand: You have a domain name, you have a hosting package, and your website is now fully-functional. So where do we go from here? The next step is to begin customizing your website. It's time to take your target audience (potential customers) into account and start building in order to appeal to them.
Today you will be installing a template.
The template controls the overall look of your site. It is the framework. It brings together common elements to provide a uniform system so that everything flows properly. Templates vary a whole lot, but mainly in their color schemes, fonts, and layout options. So where can we find Joomla templates? The answer is really, ANYWHERE! There are thousands upon thousands of templates all across the web. Finding one is like finding a piece of hay in a haystack! You can simply google “Joomla templates” and you will be well along your way to finding one. With so many options though, it is important to find the right one for your business: one that can appeal to potential customers. For example, if you have a website that sells clothing for babies, you should find a template with soft colors and simple fonts; something that can appeal to people shopping for babies.

Today is a big day. Imagine a house under construction. Your website is currently in the framework stage. After today's lesson, your website will have doors, windows, walls, and a roof. Today we will focus on content. We'll be creating pages and a navigation menu to link to those pages.
Please note: Now that you are adding content of your own, you might want to consider taking your site offline. It is not always necessary, but the option is there if you prefer. This way no one will have access to your website unless they have proper authentication. To do this:
Login to your admin panel.
Click on “Global Configuration.”
Switch “Site Offline” to “Yes”.
Click “Save & Close” at the top right.
Now if you navigate to your site, you will notice you need a username and password to enter. (This is the same username and password you use to log into your admin panel).
Puttnng your site back online is just as simple, just switch “Site Offline” to “No”.

It is said that if a consumer doesn't know what they are going to get within 3 seconds of being on your website, THEY WILL LEAVE. People's attention spans are decreasing as we speak. Text is becoming increasingly obsolete, and is being replaced by pictures and videos. Too much text will kill your business. If you want to draw people in, SHOW them something interesting. Now let's discuss pictures and videos...
Pictures:
Adding images to your site is a simple process as long as you understand how your website files are stored and how to access them. If you don't, have no worries. Today you will learn just that.
Before we begin, I would like to point out that web images work differently then, let's say, professionally photographed, high-resolution printed photos. Web images need to be light. If you put an image on your site that is 5 MB (megabytes), it will load extremely slow. If you put the same image with a lower resolution, your site speed should pick up. Remember, people's attention spans are lower than ever – you DO NOT want a slow website.

Do you want your contact information down the right side of every page? Is there a new product you hope to feature at the footer of your entire site? Today you will be furthering your knowledge of website customization. You will be learning step by step how to add new items and position them accordingly.
Positions:
Before learning what a module is, it's important to understand that a module cannot be created without knowing what positions are available to place it in. Positions are sections of your template designated for modules. “Right” for example, can represent a right column on your template. Therefore any module created and placed in the “Right” position will show up on the right side of your website. Knowing where your positions are is extremely important. To find your template's positions, log in to the admin sections of your site and find your template manager page:

WARNING: What you are about to learn is advanced and requires a relatively in-depth knowledge of HTML. As a self-taught web designer and developer, it took me years before I could understand and implement tools such as javascript and jQuery. These are not simple tools you can pull out and use when it's convenient. These are web-changing tools. Tools that add functionality to websites. Tools which you must understand how they work before putting them into play. If you have made it up to this point without a problem, I am confident you will be fine today. If building your site has been a struggle thus far, today will be challenging. Regardless of where you stand, you have already entered an industry where you will learn through experience. As you continue to venture into the world of web-based businesses, this segment might become more and more appealing. Do your best, learn what you can, and revert back to this lesson often.
Javascript:
Javascript is a programming language used to make websites more interactive. An example of javascript would be a roll-over button (a button that changes when hovered over with the mouse). This lesson will not teach you how to physically write javascript, but rather how to use or implement it. There are tons of javascript scripts already written and available for use, but if you don't know how they operate it's going to be nearly impossible to work with. To use pre-written javascript code, you must understand how an HTML page is written. A standard HTML page looks like this:

It truly bothers me that most people in this country are unhappy at work. It bothers me that so many people feel guilty asking for a day off. This is not how life should be lived. It is the standard American routine in this day and age. Well I'm here to tell you that LIFE HAS CHANGED. The so-called "American dream" might still exist, but it's not what it used to be. Life is too short to rot away at a desk job for 50 or so years.
