Matt Ellis

My name is Matt Ellis, from Primal Athlete Training Center.
I have been involved in Track and Field for over 19 years.

In the past, I loved the thrill of pushing myself and out-performing
the other athletes I competed against.

But these days, my job is to HELP YOU BECOME THE BEST THROWER
POSSIBLE. RIGHT NOW, I WANT YOU TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING...

Think of the INJURIES THAT YOU OR YOUR THROWERS HAVE EXPERIENCED
while competing in their events.

Think of the MOST COMMON INJURIES THAT HAPPEN TO SHOT, DISCUS,
JAVELIN, AND HAMMER THROWERS.

Think of the part that gets injured more than anything else.

What is it?

Fingers, hands, thumbs, wrists, forearms, elbows - it's all injuries
of the lower arm - from the elbow down.

Shot putters mess up their hands from the shot rolling between their
fingers as they throw it...

Javelin throwers need Tommy John surgery to repair their worn out
elbows...

Discus throwers tear ligaments, tendons, and they dislocate their
fingers...

When swinging the hammer, that 12-lb or 16-lb hammer is multiplied
into hundreds of lbs that you have in your hand as you go to release
it.

LOOK, IT'S HAPPENED TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US.

Your hands are always getting beaten up.

They're always getting abused.

GRIP STRENGTH is the most over-looked and the most necessary part of
strength training that you need to be doing in order to stay healthy.

It is THE THING THAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON RIGHT NOW, because Stronger
Hands, Wrists, Forearms and Elbows will get you through an entire
season.

And that's why you need Grip Training for Track and Field Throwers...

-------------------------
HOW THIS DVD CAME TO BE
-------------------------

At a conference I attended last year, I met a guy that I have been
following on-line for years - Jedd Johnson.

Jedd Johnson JEDD IS THE NUMBER ONE RESOURCE WHEN IT COMES TO GRIP
TRAINING and developing hand strength for sports applications.

During a break in the action at the conference, Jedd and I sat down
and I TOLD HIM ABOUT SOME OF THE HAND AND LOWER ARM INJURIES my
athletes were having from throwing.

Jedd couldn't believe what he was hearing. As we sat there, he
started WRITING DOWN DIFFERENT DRILLS for me to try with my athletes
in order to strengthen their hands and prevent injuries from training
the throws.

I was blown away at the kinds of things Jedd was describing and that
was when I brought up the idea of getting together, shooting a DVD,
and putting it out there for coaches like you who want to keep their
athletes safe and performing at a high level all season long.

Jedd and I took action and within two weeks of meeting one anther,
Jedd came up to my facility and we shot a video on Grip Training
specifically for throwers.

This Video covers everything you need to know about finger, hand,
wrist padding-bottom: 2px;margin-left: 4px;"> Open Hand Training is
the most valuable form of Grip Training, because it forces the entire
hand to work together.

We will show you common Thick Bar Training tools that will build
stronger hands and put muscle on your forearms.

This is also where we get into Pinch Grip Training - we will show you
how to train the thumbs to make them stronger and resist injury.

We also cover several hybrid-style drills that combine facets of all
grip disciplines for even more benefit and cross-over to your throws
training.

CHAPTER 5: WRIST AND FOREARM STRENGTH

You must not leave out the Wrists and Forearms in the Grip Training
routine. They must be trained intensely in order to withstand the
stresses of throwing and all the rigors of the long season.

In this section, we look at ways to target the wrists and forearms
specifically using equipment you already have at your gym.

We also show you how to train your wrists and forearms using leverage
devices that will build strength in all the directions the wrist and
forearms move.

CHAPTER 6: COMMON THROWING INJURIES AND PREVENTION

In this section, Matt discusses the most common injuries that are
being seen with throwers these days, as well as the ways they can be
prevented.

Matt also talks about how strengthening the lower arms can reduce the
chance for injury at the elbow, high forearm, wrist and hands.

CHAPTER 7: GRIP ISOLATION VS. INTEGRATION

When training the Grip, there are two ways to go about it: all by
itself, and as part of full-body lifts. In this section, we cover the
difference and when to use each.

Also, we cover several High Impact ways you can begin training your
grip while also training other parts of your body for an even bigger
BANG for your time spent in the gym.

CHAPTER 8: HOME MADE EQUIPMENT

We know that for many coaches, the budgets are limited, so buying
several hundred dollars worth of equipment is out of the equation.

With that in mind, Matt and I cover over a dozen pieces of grip
training gear you can easily make by yourself or with a little help
from friends

We know there's a chance your team has the smallest budget in the
school, but the largest number of kids. For that reason, we added this
section JUST FOR YOU.

CHAPTER 9: IMPLEMENTATION

At this point, you know that in order to keep your throwers
performing at a high level and to keep hand, wrist and elbow injuries
away, you MUST start implementing Grip Training.

But the question still remains: How do You Do That?

In this section we cover the best ways to begin working Grip Training
into your routines without disrupting the rest of your training plan
or adding a bunch of extra time to your workouts.

THE LAST THING THAT TOUCHES THE SHOT, DISCUS, JAVELIN, AND HAMMER ARE
YOUR FINGERS!

Why wouldn't you take a few minutes every training session to improve
your grip strength and prevent hand and finger injuries from
occurring?

If you've never thought of it before or if you aren't even sure where
to start, then we've got you covered with this DVD.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT GRIP TRAINING FOR TRACK AND FIELD THROWERS:
-------------------------

Q: I AM A NEW STRENGTH COACH - WILL I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING YOU TELL
ME?

A: I believe you will have no issues understanding what we show you.
We cover everything with proper verbal detail as well as easy to
follow demonstrations.

Q: I HAVE LIMITED ROOM, WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO DO THIS?

A: Yes, you really won't need tons of space or equipment. If you are
going to be training a large team you will need to accommodate for the
size of the team. Most of these drills can be done right in your
weight room or out on the Track itself.

Q: I WORK WITH TOP LEVEL COLLEGE ATHLETES. IS THIS SOMETHING THEY CAN
USE OR ARE THEY TOO ADVANCED AND \"BEYOND\" THIS?

A: Athlete at all levels need Grip Training, both to build strength
that helps them perform, as well as preventing injuries.

Q: I DON'T HAVE MY OWN FACILITY. I TRAIN MY ATHLETES OUT OF THE TRUNK
OF MY CAR. WILL THIS WORK FOR ME?

A: Absolutely. We show many tools that are light weight and will take
up little room in your car. Also, we show a bunch of equipment you can
build to go easier on your budget.

Q: I WORK MAINLY WITH KIDS UNDER 12. IS THIS SOMETHING I CAN USE?

A: There are grip training drills for all levels of athletes. If your
athletes are old enough to perform the throws, there are drills they
should be doing to strengthen their hands, keep everything balanced,
and keep injuries away.

Q: HOW MUCH EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED TO RUN THIS PROGRAM?

A: While there is a huge amount of great specialized grip training
tools, much of what we show you involves using Dumbbells, Barbells,
weight plates, and other equipment you already have in your gym. We
even show you how to use your lifting belt for a very challenging grip
training drill!
