Transcription-Training.net has developed a course in General Transcription that is designed to take the newbie who has never transcribed before and turn you into a top-notch transcriptionist. Unlike medical or legal transcription, the learning curve is much shorter because there is no complicated terminology to learn. And, with general transcription, the work is much more varied and interesting. All you need to get started is a computer with an Internet connection and word processing software. Microsoft Word is overwhelmingly the software of choice that your clients will want you to use; however, for training purposes, you can use what you currently have in case you don't have Microsoft Word at this time.
This course would also be an excellent resource for those who may have done some transcription before, but it's been awhile and you need to brush up on your skills; particularly, if you've been out of the workforce for some time and are considering increasing your income by working from home.

Before you start to think, well, she's awfully full of herself, let me introduce myself:
Hi! I'm Janet Shaughnessy,
owner and operator of Zoom Transcription Services. I have over 30+ years
experience in providing transcription services. Of course, in the early years, I
couldn't work from home. But, with the introduction of the Internet, it is now
possible and, in fact, a benefit to your clients to hire home-based workers.
There's more on that in the course and more about me. But, briefly put, I
developed this course out of loose notes and files because I found myself
spending way too much time training my new hires -- even the "experienced" ones.
They say "necessity is the mother of invention." Obviously, I didn't invent
home-based transcription, but I found myself in the situation of having a
disabled husband who needed me at home. I had to assess my skill set to
determine how I was going to be able to take care of him and still earn a
living. I'm also not afraid to tell you that, prior to my taking inventory of
what I had to offer, I spent thousands (ouch!) and wasted a lot of time on scams
and schemes that claim to offer work from home opportunities. I can save you
that expense and trouble!
Providing general transcription services from
home is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You will not see pictures of McMansions,
luxury cars, or phony paychecks on this site. Transcribing from audio and/or
video files is a real skill, offering legitimate jobs with real paychecks. How
much you will earn is dependent on several factors which are covered in the
course, but you should expect between $10 to $30 per hour.

#4: No one will steal your stapler. And, if they do, you can take away their allowance.
#3: Unlimited bathroom breaks. And, you never have to go after the guy across the hall who always has Mexican food for lunch.
#2: You can have sex on the job without being subject to disciplinary action. No one will ever know (except, presumably, your partner).
#1: Your longest commute is from your bedroom to your desk.
