Dear Struggling Throws Coach,
My name is Dave Hahn, I have been coaching throwers for over 10 years
now. I started out as a young college grad. Actually, I started
coaching officially even before I graduated, as I was asked to coach
at the college level, while I was doing my student teaching. Having
competed as an athlete since middle school, and achieving some success
along the way (school records, All-American honors, etc), I knew all
there was to know about working with athletes in the throwing events
(shot, hammer, discus, weight throw), _OR SO I THOUGHT_
It turns out that being a successful athlete, does not directly
translate to being a good coach. I struggled to pay for expensive
clinics and conferences to meet and network with throws coaches from
all over the country. I was frustrated that there wasn't really much
good stuff out there to prepare for these events. I would show up for
a three-day conference, "DRINK FROM THE FIRE HOSE" of information
presented, and then try to filter out the good information from the
bad and incorporate what I understood into my training plans.
This went on for 3 years before the lightbulb came on and I felt like
I really understood the events to the point where I could have
in-depth technical discussions with my athletes, and really follow
what was being said at various presentations I attended. I even began
speaking at events, and leading clinics myself.

Some further feedback
This weekend I attended the state track clinic. I thought you
would be interested to know that two of the presenters that I saw
mentioned you by name as a great resource. But furthermore, I feel
that my limited time spent so far on your site provided my with not
only a solid background of the basics on the throwing events, but
also an ability to relate and understand all of which was said about
the techniques and training as it was presented.
If i was to choose between time at a clinic and time on your site, I
would choose your throws academy in a heartbeat, the quality and
amount of information by far surpasses the speakers that I
watched. Not only that but your site provides so much more in
terms of feedback with the self tests and the ability to go back over
the information.
Any coach looking to learn more about coaching the throws would be
far better served paying for membership from your site than paying the
entry fee each year to the clinics. I would think that your site
would be a very valuable expenditure to come right out of a programs
yearly budget as well.
I certainly have a long way to go but your site provides all of the
