Good secrets never last long. Especially those that truly deserve to
be shared. Perhaps the GREATEST SECRET to successful weight loss I
have learned was imparted to me many years ago by a man whose CHANCE
AQUAINTAINCE I made long before I had decided I would devote my life
to the fitness industry.

It is hard not to think of it as one of those happy accidents that
can mark the turning points in a life, though at the time I would not
have recognized it as such.

But before I tell you about this I have a _confession_ to make.

You're about to be brainwashed.

At least, that's my goal. Don't be too alarmed, though. Because I'll
need more than you reading the content of this page to pull it off.

I'll need to use the ENTIRE CONTENT OF MY BOOK to strip away your
_resistance to losing weight_. I'll need to use every hard won secret
I've learned over the years to _reprogram your mind_ for almost
effortless weight loss. Even then I'll have to work hard at this.

But it wouldn't be fair if I didn't warn you up front.

Because I am a master at what I do - which is to persuade you to take
action. The very same powerful techniques that I reveal in my book,
the ones you'll learn which will literally CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK -
about your body, and how you treat it - are the techniques I use in

BOTTOM LINE: This book will help you to get slim.

But like I have said, at first I did not appreciate the INHERENT and
UNIVERSAL POWER of the insight Tom shared with me that day.

I've thought a lot about this over the years - trying to figure out
why it was that it took so long for me to come around. Because I know
this reluctance to accept that the solution _could be so simple_ keeps
others from moving ahead with their lives as well. Especially those
who could use the techniques I have learned to help them get control
of their body weight.

The best way I can think to explain this "weight loss conundrum" is
to contrast the situation with the story of the design of the common
mousetrap.

Yes, I know. Right now you're probably thinking to yourself "_How
could mousetrap design possibly have anything to do my inability to
easily maintain my ideal body weight?_"

But stick with me for a minute and I'll show you how this seeming
footnote in history helps to illuminate the sad predicament today of
anyone hoping to find a reliable way to both SHED EXCESS BODY WEIGHT,
and keep that weight off for good.

In 1894, when William C. Hooker submitted his application to the
patent office for _"an animal trap - comprising a base, a
spring-actuated jaw constructed of a single piece of wire coiled to
form a transverse spring"_ no one, including Hooker, could have
guessed that he had invented a device that was so effective it would
guarantee a monopoly over all future competitors.

The efficiency of the steel coiled spring that snaps shut in just 38
thousandths of a second has never been rivaled, despite more than 4400
hopeful patent applications for a better mousetrap that have been
submitted in the years since.

Today, more than a century after it was first introduced, that
"perfect design" commands more than 60 percent of the world market for
mousetraps. The supremacy of Hooker's creation, it's ability to meet
the needs of the consumer, is unquestioned.

Now, the only reason I bring this up at all is that I can't help but
wonder what William C. Hooker, if he was alive today, would make of
the fact that of the HUNDREDS OF NEW WEIGHT LOSS PRODUCTS that have
appeared on the market _every year_ for the past several decades, _not
a single one_ has been able to successfully gain traction and
establish itself as an _effective_ and _reliable_ tool for PERMANENT
WEIGHT LOSS.

Because if there was such a product, like Hooker's mousetrap, then
wouldn't _everyone_ be using it?

Wouldn't YOU?

I mean, if you stop and think about it for just a moment it is really
kind of mind boggling.

After all we humans are pretty darned smart. We're able to put a man
on the moon, double the storage and processing capacity of our
computer chips every year, pull DNA from the blood cells of fossilized
dinosaurs, and extract oil reserves from deposits buried deep below
the ocean floor. But for the life of us we cannot figure out how to
burn the fat off our chubby bodies?

As I've said, that's something I've thought about a LOT over the
years. Even after I had FIGURED OUT THE ANSWER it still took me long
time to realize I'd done it.

WHY KNOWING HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT IS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH TODAY

Even now, after all the time I have spent mastering the weight loss
strategies I now TEACH TO OTHERS, I still sometimes make the _mistake_
of thinking I know enough to ensure that I will never again gain too
much weight.

But then it happens - a shoulder ligament tear that leads to time
away from the gym, or an unexpected development in my business that
RAISES STRESS LEVELS and WEAKENS MY RESOLVE to take care of my body.
Then... a little more comfort food than normal to deal with the
disappointments that set in, and before I am able to recognize the
pattern I have repeated in the past, _I have gained weight_.

Fortunately it doesn't happen often, and I know immediately HOW TO

The irony is that today we are more equipped to deal with our

I make a point of purchasing the more promising weight loss products
that come onto the market to see what others are teaching, and the
surpising thing is that the quality of some of the products is
_astoundingly high_. After being used successfully for more than
30 years_ to program the mind for reliable, sustainable, and almost
effortless weight loss, now you can get access to the body weight
management system designed to unlock the _hidden power_ of
self-persuasion that is known to exist in _every one of us_.

Often I'll recommend a product to someone who has come in for a
weight loss consultation and I'll discover with some surprise that

are indeed correct_.

It's true. There really IS something missing from almost all of the
weight loss products you may have come across today - a CRITICAL

Without this missing element you are about as likely to achieve your

Imagine being handed a jigsaw puzzle, only to discover that all the
EDGE PIECES are missing, so that you are unable to construct an
"outline" from which you can begin to work your way in. All the other
pieces are there, and if properly arranged the image would jump out at
you. You would not even notice the missing pieces at that point. But
without them you cannot get started.

Worse yet, what if there actually were no edge pieces to the weight
loss puzzle?

What if I told you that most people spend fruitless years looking for
NON-EXISTENT CLUES to the art of successful weight loss?

What if I were to reveal to you right now how every one of those
people had been looking at the puzzle in entirely the wrong way
through no fault of their own? That instead of trying to start with
the end points of the puzzle, which _simply are not there_, what they
should have been shown was how to find the core piece so they could

When you discover that the world does not work the way you always
thought it had you are faced with one of two choices. You can either

For many years I took the first route. I was able to do it because I
had _talked myself into believing I'd taken the second_.

Imagine for a moment that you are in your late twenties and you've
been struggling for several years with one diet after another. By now
you've tried just about every crazy suggestion that has come your way
in the guise of the "breakthrough diet". Back in the seventies fad
diets appeared with endorsements from people that you knew just had to
be telling the truth or they wouldn't be allowed to say the things
they were saying. At least, that's what I thought back then!

Only the diets never worked for me. Not for very long.

So, imagine that one morning you wake up, look in the mirror, and
realize that YOUR YOUTH IS SLIPPING ON BY.

You don't look like the girl in the Farrah Fawcett posters and
shampoo ads that were popular at the time. Almost 30 years of age and
your flesh still bulges in ways that don't flatter the ego.

Something has to change, and every time you turn on the tv someone is
gyrating to music BECAUSE IT'S THE EIGHTIES and even though disco
might be dead JAZZERCISE IS JUST TAKING OFF, and suddenly it hits you.


You'll become an aerobics instructor.

You'll get up in front of a class two or three times a day and you'll
burn off the stubborn fat with exercise!

That was me. I thought I'd found the PERFECT FAT LOSS STRATEGY. I
thought my life was about to change.

So did a LOT of women. But we were all wrong. We jumped on the
jazzercise bandwagon and it took us... nowhere. Yes, we loved to crank
up the music and dance around like we were on the verge of
transforming ourselves into creatures of grace. But it did not happen.
If you need to lose weight but have struggled to find a system to
help you get the job done it may be that you're missing the vital
component that will keep you motivated, focused, and on course long

As the years rolled on I ACTUALLY GOT FATTER. I was the _class
instructor_, and I was getting more and more out of shape as time went
on! But I told myself it was working because I had bought into the
promise of a firmer, more healthy, and sexier body than I believed
could be achieved by any other means at that time.

It wasn't until almost a decade had passed before I finally looked
down at the members in my classes and realized that NONE OF US WERE
GETTING ANY SLIMMER.

I remember getting shin splints at about this time. All that jumping
up and down had finally taken its toll. I stopped taking the classes
to recuperate and decided never to go back. It was like waking up from
a drug-induced hallucination. Somehow I had sleep-walked my way
through the eighties and come out of it in worse shape than I'd gone
into it.

It was during this period of reflection that I remembered TOM.

SUDDENLY THE ACTIONS OF A MAN I'D NOT
THOUGHT ABOUT FOR YEARS HAD THE
MOST PROFOUND INFLUENCE ON ME

While I was packing clients into my classes (actually into the back
of my _garage_ before I was able to make the upgrade to a studio), Tom
was already putting his OWN weight loss plan into effect.

Like a lot of people who join a gym to get into shape, Tom had
received a wakeup call one morning when he'd woken with chest pains.
At the time he was in his forties, overweight, and like most men that
age, in the WORSE SHAPE OF HIS LIFE. He told himself that the pain was
probably due to indigestion, although he wasn't all that confident
about his diagnosis.

It was his 12-year old daughter who made the phone call. Within the
hour he was riding in the back of an ambulance wondering whether he
would make the journey home again to his family.

Fortunately Tom had only experienced a _panic attack_. But the
episode had cost him $6,500 in medical expenses (those ambulance rides
are never cheap) and he'd come away from the experience feeling as
though he had _narrowly escaped a real health crisis_.

So the first time I noticed him at the gym he was at least 100 pounds
overweight.

He was going around asking people what they were doing, and why,
which was unusal since most people will keep to themselves during
their workout time. I also couldn't help but notice him because he was
the only person in the place wearing a suit.

When I asked him later about this he said that I had probably seen
him _conducting research_. He said he always researched his projects
before dedicating real time to them. Apparently getting in shape was
the next one on his list. I never learned what it was he did for a
living, but I always imagined he was an insurance saleman or maybe an
accountant.

Someone had introduced me to him as "the jazzercise lady" and we
chatted for a bit, but I don't recall seeing Tom much after that first
day.

My life was getting busy, and the jazzercise classes were TAKING UP
MORE AND MORE OF MY TIME. But I was happy because I was getting paid
to be active, and I was confident that all the work I was doing was
going to pay off.

I was sure that at last I would have the same kind of SLIM PHYSIQUE
as the people in the posters I lingered in front of when I visited the
gym.

It wasn't until a couple of years later that I first questioned any
of it.

I had stopped by the gym to meet someone and while I was waiting a
man I had never seen before approached me with a big smile on his
face. He was dressed in his workout clothes and was carrying with him
what I assumed to be his exercise journal.

"The Jazzercise Lady!" he said.

Even then I did not recognize his voice as belonging to the man that
had stood before me TWO YEARS EARLIER and a GOOD DEAL HEAVIER.

The weight was gone. All of it. Imagine how your life will
change when YOU are able to determine what your body will look like
six months from now. Imagine being able to get up each morning
confident that you have the power to FOCUS on your weight loss goals
and always MEET them, because your motivation to succeed knows no
bounds!

I could not even tell you what we talked about in those few minutes.
By the time he excused himself to head into the gym for his workout my
mind was TOTALLY BLANK. How had he done it?

Even back then I knew that middle-aged overweight men do not have the
advantages that younger men do when it comes to losing weight. They've
lost muscle mass and strength, their testosterone is fading, and they
have much more in the way of responsibilities to meet than the
twenty-something who realizes he needs to lose a few pounds to court
his future wife.

Clearly Tom had figured out a way to pull off SOMETHING PRETTY DARNED
EXTRAORDINARY.

It wasn't until a few months later that I ran into him again. This
time I had the presence of mind to get him to sit down for a few
minutes in the coffee shop that ajoined the gym.

Once again I NOTICED HIS JOURNAL. It was one of those notebooks that
students carry between classes. This one was well-worn and its pages
were wrinkled. It had a black cover, so I made a joke about him being
too old to still be carrying around his "little black book".

He laughed, and then he was quiet for a moment, as if he were
thinking of changing the subject. Then he told me that it was his
_weight loss bible_.

"Huh." I nodded and thought to myself, what is a weight loss bible?
"And how does that work?"

Was he trying to tell me that the SECRET TO HIS WEIGHT LOSS SUCCESS
had something to do with the notebook he carried around?

I was skeptical, but there was no denying that he was doing something
right. The man sitting across from me was vibrant, relaxed, and looked
to be in complete control of his life. I, on the other hand, felt
great about my jazzercise classes, but I wasn't making much progress
with my weight loss goals.

"In the past 12 months," he said, "I've LOST NEARLY 120 POUNDS. But
it took 6 months before that to figure out how to lose the first ten
pounds. I won't tell you it was easy after that, but I did know what I
needed to do from that point on."

I gave him a quizzical look that simply demanded an answer.

He sat back in his chair and made a gesture with his hands. "It
starts with inspiration. Once you have that..."

"You can stick to a diet?" I said. I told him I could do with a
little inspiration myself. If he could inspire me, I was listening.

He said it was a little more complicated than that, and that he'd had
to find his own inspiration, but in hindsight it was obvious and
ANYONE COULD DO IT.

But I wanted to know how _he_ did it. I told him that I _really_
wanted to have a PEEK INSIDE HIS NOTEBOOK. He told me it wouldn't
really mean anything to me, that I would need to come up with my own
weight loss bible by myself.

Then he reached out and offered me the notebook.

I opened it expecting to find the pages filled with lists of special
foods and exercise routines, progress notes and weight measurements.
But that wasn't what I found at all.

IT WOULD TAKE 8 MORE YEARS FOR ME
TO DECIPHER THE TRUE MEANING OF
WHAT HE'D SHOWN ME

Inside the cover of the notebook was a _photograph of a young girl_.


It was his daughter, though in the photo she was much younger than
the girl who had picked up the phone that day two years earlier when
Tom had been rushed to the hospital. She appeared to be in their
backyard, holding out birthday cake and looking up at the camera while
a party in full swing was going on behind her. She was smiling.

Across from the photo, on the opposite page was a single phrase. I
have never forgot it. Slim the mind, and the body will follow.

I repeated the phrase out loud and asked him what it meant as I
thumbed the remaining pages.

To my surprise all the notebook contained was calendar pages by
month. They stretched over years, well into the future.

Tom appeared to be marking off days, those on which I presumed he had
visited the gym. There were other passages of text, quotations, none
of which I was able to later recall.

The photo was touching, but _I was disappointed_. I did not see
anything I could use myself.

"Slim the mind?" I said again.

Tom would only say that it was something I would need to think about.
But he said it BEGINS WITH INSPIRATION, and for him it was his
daughter.

He told me he wanted to make sure he would be around for her 21st
birthday, so he had drawn calendar months into the pages of his
notebook - ten years worth. He told himself that for every day he
WORKED OUT ON THE WEIGHT MACHINES and ATE HEALTHY he would lengthen
his lifespan by another day. He had convinced himself of it.

He would also be around to celebrate her wedding day and every other
special occasion in her life that he could be a part of. All it would
take is more notebooks. If you could reprogram your mind to
AMPLIFY the rewards of sticking to your resolution to lose weight,
wouldn't you do it? If you could learn how to STEEL YOUR MIND to the
temptations that in the past have derailed your efforts to build a
slimmer, fitter, sexier body, wouldn't you implement the ideas
immediately?

I was happy for Tom. He had found a way to get his health back on
track. But his approach seemed to me to BORDER ON THE MYSTICAL. My
mind was steeped in the power of _dieting_ and _aerobics_. Millions of
women and men were doing exactly as I was doing and we were just as
convinced as Tom that _we_ were on the right path.

It never occurred to me that what Tom had shown me would one day
_have a profound effect_ on not only my health and fitness
aspirations, but on every goal-oriented area of my life.

To say that I was impressed by what he had achieved would be an
understatement. But at the same time I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE SYSTEM
BEHIND IT.

Inspiration did not sound like a reproducible strategy for fat loss.
It sounded more like an accidental win, even if he did seem convinced
that his weight loss bible held the answers for him.

So I returned to my studio, buried myself in my classes, and before
long Tom's achievement slipped from my mind.

Over the years I continued to experiment with one diet after another.
I upped the number of classes I took, and almost ran myself ragged
trying to burn off the fat faster than it was accumulating as a result
of my experimental eating habits.

It wasn't until some time around 1990 that I finally looked down at
the people who were taking my classes and realized that it just wasn't
working - not for them, not for me.

NONE OF US HAD LOST WEIGHT. IT HAD
ALL BEEN ONE BIG LIE. IF ANYTHING,
WE HAD GOT EVEN FATTER!

If you have ever felt cut off from reality because things are not
working out the way you had planned, then you will know the feeling I
experienced when I realized I had detoured for years along the wrong
path. It was like waking to discover yourself alone in foreign
surroundings.

It was then that the memory of meeting Tom that day, and the content
of his notebook, his WEIGHT LOSS BIBLE as he called it, came flooding
back to me.

Suddenly my mind was ready to receive the message he had tried to
convey that day. I had finally admitted to myself that my jazzercise
classes had been a complete failure.

I felt like giving up altogether on exercise. My shins were damaged
from all the pounding, and if I was to continue exercising then it
would have to be something completely different. That's when I
recalled Tom had lifted weights.

So the next thing I tried was strength training. It wasn't too long
after this that _something miraculous_ happened.

My body began to change.

_ Soon the fat was melting away_. Within two months I had gone from a
washed up aerobics instructor with _flabby arms_ to someone who was
_packing on muscle_ by the week. Fat-burning muscle that works its
magic 24 hours every day.

Within two years I had entered my first body building contest, and by
the time I retired from the sport I had set my sight on becoming a gym
owner, which I still am to this day.

And I still lift weights - more than 20 years later.

One piece of the puzzle had fallen into place. But I WAS STILL MAKING
LOTS OF MISTAKES with the way I was eating. I would do well for a
while, then lose my way and gain back all the weight. It was even more
frustrating than the aerobics classes, because I was seeing progress
and then seeing it vanish when I gave in to a round of binge eating.

So I set about to doing what Tom had suggested. _I created my own
weight loss bible_, only I eventually saw that it was really a WEIGHT
LOSS MOTIVATION BIBLE.

It took me _years_ to discover what Tom had been able to figure out
in just six months, and for the longest time I regarded the entire
process as something that could not easily be taught. But I later
realized _that too was wrong_. I simply had no teacher to guide me at
the time.
