WEAK, SLOW, AND ALWAYS INJUREDI NEVER LIVED UP TO MY POTENTIAL

_IF I ONLY KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW _

5’5 inches tall, 135 pounds, a knee that needed surgery, there I
was for my first day of pre-season with Division 1 Frenso State
University to compete in the Pac-10 against likes of UCLA, STANFORD,
WASHINGTON, CAL BERKLEY, ETC.

As a previously average club player,  I made it that far on pure
work ethic and determination. I was also fortunate to have fantastic
coaches who believed in me.

Nonetheless, my body was breaking down and I would not listen to
anyone.  I got my knee fixed up and 3 seasons went by that I
considered frustrating

While I started the majority of matches,  I was struggling to stay
healthy and I knew deep down there was way more I had to offer as a
player. My feet were quick, I had some skills, but I had no
explosiveness, average speed at best, and I was getting knocked
around. _I put my ego aside and started listening to the strength
coaches_

Although they were far from soccer preparation geniuses,  my senior
year I started every match, never got hurt, and even went on to get
All Tournament Team a couple times

Not great, but not bad. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of
scientific training methods.  My vertical jump was still a measly 22
inches and my 40 yard dash was a not-so-lightening 5.2s.

Fast forward to today and at age 30 I can vertical jump 30 inches and
my 40yd dash now hovers around 4.75.  Credit goes to years of
research and trial and error. I AM STILL NO GENETIC FREAK, BUT FOR AN
ENDURANCE BLESSED INDIVIDUAL THE IMPROVEMENTS ARE NOT SMALL.

Plain and simple; there are things you don’t know, and things you
are not doing that could make the difference between making it to the
next level, or not.

The difference between getting a scholarship, making the team, and
staying healthy for the long haul (huge factor in being a successful
athlete which I believe cost me big time over the years) is not that
big but it requires a LITTLE EXTRA KNOWLEDGE AND EXECUTION.

Some soccer players are just plain lucky and despite their lack of
knowledge and the lack of knowledge of their coaches THEY MANAGE TO
STAY HEALTHY AND ARE BLESSED WITH CERTAIN ATHLETIC TRAITS.  If that
is you, this information will only make you that much better.
