Because the Maya were such flamboyant people, the author believes if
the Priests had had computers, Mayan Art could have resenble the art
in the calendar. The Maya loved color and used many vivid colors in
their lives. It took much researching and planning to chose the colors
and color combinations in the twenty months of the calendar.
A teacher for 31+ years, the author/artist taught Academically
Gifted, Math and Computer students about the Maya. Students compared
contemporary times with the life of the Maya. The calendars were
particulary fascinating.
The Mayan Calendar would normally end on the last day of the short
month Uayab. Just like our Gregorian Calendar ends on December 31,
every year and a new year begins. December 21, 2012 does not end the
Mayan Calendar year naturally. 12-21-2012 is the Winter Soltice and
our sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way galaxy or the
"Tree of Life" as the Mayans called it. The significance of the day
would be the "end of a great cycle" and not the "end of the world."
Instead, it would bring a new Awareness, consciousness or
understanding."
Time was circular to the Mayans and they were interested in new
beginnings more than endings. The world is changing rapidly and all of
us must learn about ourselves in order to cope with the changes that
are coming. This is not a fearful time. It is a time for hopefulness.
It is a time for expanding your abilities. The choice is yours to
make.
