Additionally, he has served as a chaplain for both the Tennessee Military Department and the Virginia Department of Military Affairs. He is a Recorded Minister within the Religious Society of Friends (which is the Quakers) and served as the pastor for Quaker congregations in Indiana and Virginia. He holds a Master of Divinity from Earlham School of Religion and a Bachelors degree from The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He also completed a clinical residency in pastoral care at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. He is a member of the Association of Professional Chaplains and the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
