DOES YOUR TEENAGER DRIVE YOU NUTS? WE'LL EXPLAIN WHY.
WHO'S IN CHARGE OF THE VOICE INSIDE YOUR TEEN'S HEAD?
WE'LL TEACH YOUR KIDS HOW TO TAKE CHARGE OF THEIR BEHAVIOUR AND BECOME
FRIENDS WITH THE LITTLE VOICE INSIDE THEIR HEAD.
We all know how harsh our own self talk can be. How many times have
you heard your teen utter the following...
* I'm not good enough
* I'm stupid
* I'm fat
* I'm ugly
* I don't know
* Nobody understands me
* School's boring
* My parents are annoying
You probably already know intuitively that negative self talk is not
as good as positive self talk - and you'd be spot on. We know that
what we focus on expands and becomes our reality. Scientists have
studied athletes with EEG's and have found that our brain can't tell
the difference between activities happening in real life and those
that are visualised or thought. This means that every word your teen
utters to themselves during the day shapes their thoughts and
therefore their reality. We all have around 28,000 thoughts per day -
and the majority of those are self generated and revolve around
ourselves. These are thoughts that are created by our brain and relate
to ourselves rather than thoughts created by an external stimulus.
So as the world becomes a busier place with face to face
communication becoming a thing of the past, who is it that is helping
you to shape your kids minds? There is social media like facebook &
twitter, computer games, movies & TV all shaping the thoughts of the
teenagers of today. Ask yourself if the activities your teenager is
participating in are generally positive in nature or negative in
nature. We guess that in most cases teenagers have a negative self
talk and engage in a lot of activities which can cause negative
thought patterns. This tends to produce teenagers who are withdrawn,
angry, depressed and worse!
Luckily, we developed the Teen Talk audio program. Teen Talk is a
studio audio recording of our Teen Talk Workshop. In this program we
cover the different aspects of where our thoughts come from and how we
can take control of our thoughts and set up our thoughts and
environment to be positive and moving towards the things we want in
life. Did you know that your brain works like the google search
engine? It doesn't really matter what you punch into google - it will
come back with results - regardless of whether these results are
accurate or even real! In this training we teach teenagers tools to
enable them to search for the things they want and be aware when they
are searching for negative things. We're not here to tell teenagers
what is right or wrong, we believe that teenagers are smart and can
work out the right decisions for themselves - and this is another
component included in this program.
_After Teen Talk, Justin seems to be more aware of what he listens
to. Sometimes when he was grumpy, I reminded him about you and he
seemed to be calmer. Justin remembers his affirmation by heart now. I
will keep reminding him to read it out. _

We also examine how the pictures, sounds, feelings and self talk we
create in our minds can impact the results we see in our lives, as
well as the impact this has on others. How do teenagers speak to
themselves compared to speaking to their best friends? We bet that
teenagers are much harsher critics of themselves and put themselves
down much more than they do when they are speaking to their friends.
We look at affirmations and how they can be used daily to set up
states of confidence, respect, honesty and integrity - or anything
else for that matter. At the end of the audio the teens will have been
taken through the process of creating an affirmation and have made a
committment to read it for the next 30 days and see what happens.
I'm sure everyone would have experienced the erratic behaviour of
teenagers before. This used to be attributed to the changing of
hormones and the teenager is adjusting to these new hormone levels.
Recent studies have shown this is not the case but is laregly due to
the delay in maturation of connections in the brain. The frontal lobe,
which is essentially the boss of the brain, the decision maker, the
firewall between human and animal, is the last to develop in humans.
It has been shown that this part is a bit slow to respond and is most
likely the cause for erratic behaviour exhibited by teenagers. In the
program we talk about this fact and deliver methods to allow teenagers
to make balanced and well thought out decisions. More important than
this, we teach teenagers how to take responsibility for their
decisions, both the good and the bad - and learning from both.
We then look at the impact that music has on our self talk. We take a
look at what the songs are really saying and how the lyrics make us
feel. This information is then related into other media such as
computer games, movies and TV. The object here is to develop an
awareness of our environment and how this may be affecting our self
talk without us even being aware of it.
_I think Phi, although he kept on saying that it's not necessary, he
did take something in as well. Yesterday he did not do his piano
practice properly and I said that he did not earn to have a friend
over and he was Ok with that. Liem now knows about the choices and
consequences. _

We strongly recommend allowing teenagers to put this program on their
ipod and listening to it at their own pace. We also recommend that
parents and caregivers listen to the program so they can then discuss
components with their teenager. Studies have shown that by developing
communication skills and giving youth a place to voice their opinions
is one of the key components to developing youth that thrive rather
than simply survive. Teen Talk is all about learning about how
self-talk works and how to take control of the process. Developing
self talk and voice has been shown to reduce the chances of risky
behaviour such as alcohol and drug abuse, while simultaneously
increasing the the chances of your child being a leader and having
success in school. See what the participants of Teen Talk say about
