And I should know.
I've personally worked in some of the most popular nursing areas including: Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Step-Down, Orthopedics, and Education. And I personally have friends who are working in other areas like: Pediatrics, ICU, Peri-operative, ER, Diagnostic Imaging, Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities and Doctor’s Offices.
When I tell you that it's hard work, I'm speaking from my own experience and my friends’.
Let me explain why it's so tough (and then, I'll show you how to SUPER-simplify things)...
5 Reasons Why Working As A Nurse The Traditional Way Is A Bad Idea

Traditional nursing require too much work putting in hours. One of the biggest reasons why people don't get their dream income is because there is a lot of work that goes into the setup. When you factor in working 12-hour shifts with lesser pay compared to those with the higher education, doing overtime or working shifts that offer differential, working 2 jobs at a time, and mandatory holidays, it's just too much workload for the average person to ever get somewhere.
Traditional nursing jobs have built-in pressures to work your max # of hours to get a good paycheck. It is so easy to burn out by running a hectic career life on top of your family life. You think going in that you'll never run out of energy doing so because it’s necessary and you have to do what you have to do. As one of the most workaholic nurse (I used to teach in a Nursing school 14hrs/day x 6 days a week and had worked 12-hr nights x 5 nights in a row!), let me tell you that I myself faced this problem. Almost everyone does. And, even if you are supernatural and can continue working doubles and overtimes for years and years, the demands of it physically, emotionally and mentally requires discipline that most of us just don't possess.
Traditional nursing jobs require a pricey and a longer time to finish higher education in order to get big pay. By doing it the traditional way, you have to manage demands at work, study on schoolwork at night, and at least two dozen other things.
Traditional nursing careers demand a large investment of time, money and energy. You have a career to build, you’re working on another degree to finish, you deal with additional time on school work on top of your regular daily tasks and a variety of others that usually get left out of the "salesletter" for a career in nursing. The truth is, a traditional nursing career requires a large investment of time for you to really get to the level of BIG paychecks. Now, if these are commodities you have available for now, you might pull it off. But, believe me, it will leave the average person stretched out too thin for juggling all of it at one time.
Traditional nursing include a continual battle to put in sufficient hours each payday. Here's a picture most people don't tell you about: the "average" nurse will work for 4 days a week and have to pick-up extra hours beyond that for overtime pay or they have to choose to work the graveyard shifts for the extra differential pay they get. What, you thought it would be a simple process and you don’t have to have sacrifices? It simply doesn't happen that way. With more and more nurses getting into the traditional rat race, this picture is probably going to get worse. People simply don't have the time nor money to pursue higher degrees for the bigger salary that comes with it.
