CLOGGED MILK DUCTS
Dear parent
Hi I'm Felicity! Thanks very much for taking a few minutes of your
time to visit my website to learn more about breastfeeding. As a
registered nurse I've gained years of experience helping mothers with
breastfeeding but it wasn't until I had my own child that I truly
understood the problems first hand. Child birth is a blessing though,
no matter what problems you have, so I took my experience as an
opportunity to learn and share my lessons with everyone else in the
same situation.
So right now on this page, I'll cover 5 of the most common
breastfeeding problems and explain their treatments. This is just a
sample for you to read, my ebook has entire chapters devoted to all of
the problems above, so if you suffer from any of these symptoms then
relief is not far away
Before I became a mother for the first time, I knew about many of the
problems that mothers have with breastfeeding but I didn't know how
worrying they would be wow, that was a big shock! I actually
experienced breastfeeding problems (low milk supply) in the first
week, starting when my son had suckled and suckled and suckled but
wasn't satisfied. I moved him to the other breast and the process
started anew. A lot of activity and no satisfaction. My baby was
getting more and more upset.
“Let's give him the formula.” My partner Nicholas said, and that
made me burst into a fresh round of tears. He's only 48 hours old and
I can't provide him what he needs! What a failure as a mother I felt.
He knew I didn't have any sleep for the past 48 hours. “Maybe you're
just tired. I'll feed him tonight so you can catch on some sleep.”
But I couldn't sleep. My nipples hurt with the touch of the nightgown
and I wanted to breastfeed. If you don't start immediately, I knew,
milk might not start at all Suddenly I had an idea.
The pump. I had one at home just in case. The pump does not attach to
the nipple but to the areola. Maybe that pain will be tolerable. It
worked. I could stand the pain but I was watching in horror as nothing
came out of my breasts. This method had worked hundreds of times in
front of my eyes with other mothers, so I wasn't sure what I was doing
wrong.
A few minutes later, the colostrum started. Little by little it
collected in the bottle which we mixed with the formula. At least my
baby will be getting some of the benefits; immunity with my
antibodies, laxative to clear his intestines and protection again
intestinal problems. It is also so highly nutritional.
With that happy outcome, and feeling a little better about myself, I
fell asleep. Several hours later I woke up with my breast twice the
size they had been before. At last, I was producing milk!! I continued
using the pump for the next two days. Applying a pure lanolin cream on
my nipples between pumping to help sooth them, I pumped every three
hours, getting my body conditioned to the sound of the baby's cries.
I washed the cream off carefully before pumping and was producing a
good quantity of milk. I used a bit of it to rub on my nipples and let
it air dry before applying the cream. Sometimes old wives tales work
the best. After two days my nipples healed. It took just a little time
to get my baby and me used to breastfeeding and the pain turned to
discomfort and then subsided and disappeared. From then on I had no
problems at all with milk supply, but other issues came up which
thankfully I was able to treat on the spot. It was at this point that
I figured out that if these problems are common, there is a good
chance that mothers won't have the knowledge that I do and there must
be a need out there for this information.
THAT IS WHY I WROTE THIS EBOOK - TO HELP MOTHERS BY SHARING MY
KNOWLEDGE & REMEDIES
Now that my son is almost 2 years old I've learned many lessons from
breastfeeding him and reading countless books on the subject. I'm kind
of like an expert on the subject of breastfeeding now, and I started
to think about writing an ebook that included all of the various cures
and remedies that I had discovered from reading and my experience
working in childrens hospitals. I mentioned the idea to my friends and
family, not knowing what they would think. I was amazed when everyone
agreed with the idea and encouraged me to get writing straight away.
For weeks I spoke with other mothers from my parenting groups and
social circles, to find out what their particular problems were while
breastfeeding. I found that 12 unique types of problems came up again
and again.
Once I compiled this list of problems, I knew the exact breastfeeding
treatment and remedies to discuss in my ebook and began writing down
different proven solutions for each problem in the list.
I personally don't enjoy reading large, boring medical books when
looking for help on breastfeeding I'm guessing you are the same.
Wouldn't you rather have a list of steps to follow that would
instantly begin treating any type of breastfeeding problem? That is
the way to view my breastfeeding book, as a collection of cures,
remedies and treatments to end your pain and problems.
For most women, breastfeeding is a naturally enjoyable experience but
if you are in pain it's time to do something about it please, let me
help you through this
AT LAST A SIMPLE STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO TREATING ANY BREASTFEEDING
PROBLEM IN JUST HOURS!
Right now, I want to share with you several cures to breastfeeding
problems that may be causing you pain and discomfort. You're about to
discover the truth about keeping you and your baby healthy with home
remedies that can be prepared in minutes. Also, I'll briefly tell you
the importance of breastfeeding positions that eliminate sore nipples.
These proven methods have been around since before modern medicine,
they are passed down through the generations and I can personally
vouch for many of them. These are the same remedies that we recommend
to mothers in the hospital and those with new born babies at home.
WHAT YOU NEED IS SIMPLE, PROVEN REMEDIES FOR INSTANT RELIEF !
That's exactly what I'm offering you here today and as I mentioned
I'm willing to share some of them with you before you buy. So here is
just a small preview of the information covered in my breastfeeding
ebook
BREASTFEEDING TREATMENT FOR SORE NIPPLES
There are lots of great tips and techniques when it comes to
positioning and latching, but what if you already have sore nipples?
The mere thought of feeding your child is discouraging if you know
that the whole experience will be painful. Nursing is not supposed to
be a negative experience for you. Here are some things you can try to
ease your discomfort until your nipples have healed:
Put the baby on the least sore nipple first.
Hungry babies will be more needy at first.
If time allows, pump some milk before feeding.
This will get the letdown started and your nipples ready to nurse.
Expose the sore nipples to air as often as possible.
Apply something warm like a compress, hot water
bottle or hair dryer (dry heat works better than wet heat
as you want to remove the moisture from the affected area)
Invest in some nipple shields but look into the pros and
cons of these before making a decision to use them.
For really sore nipples look into getting some breast shields
to protect them against rubbing.
DEALING WITH LOW MILK SUPPLY
Since we agree that breastfeeding is best, not having enough milk can
be frustrating and upsetting for both mom and baby. For the baby, low
milk supply means that the baby is not getting enough to eat. It might
not always be evident that the child could eat more or it could be
very noticeable. As a mother, you want to give your child the very
best and not having enough milk may make you feel like a failure. You
are not a failure and having a low milk supply does not necessarily
mean that you will be forced to resort to alternate feeding methods.
The key to getting your milk where you want it to be to is to
constantly be reminding your breasts that they need to be working. If
you are pumping and or feeding on a regular basis then your body will
know that it needs to continue to reproduce better and more often.
RELIEVING BREAST ENGORGEMENT
At first, it may feel strange to have your breasts feel so full when
milk comes in. Some of that is perfectly normal. So is a bit of
discomfort and the feeling of swelling. There is an easy fix when you
begin to experience uncomfortable engorgement. Once you nurse the
feeling should ease up.
Engorgement is more common with a first child. After your first, this
should not be such an issue. With your second or third child, your
milk should come in sooner and you will have a better feel for
breastfeeding, schedules and the other things that come with nursing.
This is may not be true in all cases, but will happen for most.
If nursing or pumping does not completely relieve the discomfort
associated with engorgement, there are other methods that might work.
* Cold and warm compresses for great for relief. Cold compresses
work to numb the area and help get rid of the pain and also to reduce
swelling. Warm compresses improve circulation to the area. This will
help with the flow of milk. A warm bath or shower could also work.
Don’t use heat for more than five minutes because it can increase
swelling
* Gently massaging the affected breast can also with pain relief and
draining any excess milk
* Loosely fitted clothing, including bras, are recommended. If you
develop problems beyond engorgement, then it might be best to go
without a bra until the pain is gone
* Hand express, or quickly pump, before the feedings so that your
infant can latch on properly
* Set up, and follow, a regular feeding schedule. When junior gets
all they need, then pump out any excess
*
SOLVING THE ISSUE OF LEAKY BREASTS
One of the side effects of pregnancy is that your body begins to
product milk in anticipation of feeding your new baby. Occasionally,
your breasts may begin to leak a little bit of fluid even before
delivery. This is perfectly normal. It is also a good preview of what
is going to be happening after the child arrives.
When your body is producing milk, it is natural for your breasts to
drip, leak and sometimes spray milk everywhere. This messy, but
necessary, part of nursing is actually a blessing for mothers looking
to breastfeed. However, it takes some work to manage the milk so that
you are not covered in breast milk all the time.

You can get disposable pads for ease of use or look into some
washable cotton pads to be better for the environment. Avoid pads with
plastic or waterproof liners since they trap moisture and get pretty
funky fast.
Since you are going to need some sleep, and are getting woke up
enough for feedings, consider sleeping on a large nursing pad or
towel. If you leak in the middle of the night, you won’t have to add
laundering your bed lines to the to do the next day.
BABY FEEDING ON ONE BREAST?
There are a lot of different reasons that a baby may refuse one
breast or another. Some of these reasons are temporary while others
may become recurring or even permanent. Engorgement may discourage a
child from trying to eat since they will have to open their mouth even
wider and may have a difficult time latching on altogether. Poor form
with your latching technique may also be to blame.
Perhaps one side simply has more milk than another and is therefore
more interesting to the baby. Or a feeding on one breast fulfills your
baby’s needs and he does not need more milk from the other side.
Some experts relate a baby’s breast preference as being the same as
the hand preference of the mother. Maybe there is a distinctive
difference between one breast and another – a mole, a hair, more
lumps, etc.
Well, in the beginning you will need to pump the milk so that your
body is sent the message that you are still planning to nurse on that
side. The expressed milk can then be used in case your baby needs some
supplemental food.
A low milk supply could be the culprit in which case you might need
to do some additional pumping on that side to increase a greater
supply of food for your baby.
The process of nursing told to many new mothers is that they should
alternate breasts for an even amount of time. This is so that both
breasts are getting attention and are able to produce an even supply
of milk. It is important that during the first few months of nursing
that you continue to be persistent and offer both breasts during
regular feedings.

BABY THRUSH wash my hands and my nipples before and after every
feeding, how could I give him a yeast infection?
“Very simply,” the doctor answered. “Probably during Birth.
Have you had a vaginal yeast infection lately?”
Can' say I haven't heard or suffered from vaginal yeast infections.
That was a problem for a long time. Those infections kept reappearing
a few times a year until the Gynecologist decided to fight it
topically with boric acid. It cleared the infections and they haven't
returned in years.
“Some of the yeast is still there.” the doctor said, “And you
passed it to your baby during delivery. Baby's immune system is almost
nonexistent when they are born… It's not the end of the world,” he
told me and prescribed an oral fungal medication called Nystatin, to
be put on my nipples between feedings and in the baby's mouth on the
white spots– it's ok for him to swallow it, he assured me.
Ashamed, I went home and didn't tell anybody about it, not even my
closest friends. I gave my son yeast infection and now, after fighting
so long to have him feed naturally, have to insert medication into his
mouth! The moment he went to sleep, I rushed to the computer to find
out what is going on.
Baby Thrush, as the condition is called, is not life threatening, and
if the baby is content, sometimes goes away by itself. But if you rub
it, like I did, it can become painful and bothersome and prevent the
baby from nursing normally.
Yeast from the candida family likes warm and moist places and prefers
the dark. This fungus can survive without sunlight and actually
thrives on it. Since I was dripping milk sometimes between feedings, I
used nursing pads which created the perfect environment for the yeast
to thrive. I looked at my nipples closely. Yes, I found some white
spots on them as well. The baby got it from me during birth, and gave
it back to me during nursing. I had to treat both of us at the same
time to prevent us from passing it on.
If the thrush is not treated, a yeast infection can appear in the
diaper as well. The baby's internal balance is disturbed, and so is
mine.
But I wanted to treat it as naturally as I could, and treat it inside
our bodies and out.
I increased the intake of yogurt. Yogurt contains acidophilus which
are pro biotic and provide an environment that the yeast does not
like. You can get packages of Acidophilus in health food stores and
add it to your food. For the baby, I made a mixture of acidophilus and
breast milk and rubbed it in the baby's mouth on the spots. He didn't
mind the taste and took it willingly.
I was very careful with what I ate. Increasing the amount of leafy
greens and vegetables and avoiding sugars and carbohydrates helps as
well. I knew it is not a quick fix but it is a good excuse to eat
healthy. After feedings I rubbed apple cider vinegar on my nipples and
let it air dry. Vinegar is the enemy of yeast. It provides such an
acidic environment that the yeast cannot stand and dies. So is
sunshine.
Those natural remedies did not clear the thrush immediately but
prevented it from getting worse. With the Nystatin cream the thrush
disappeared after about 2 weeks and never came back.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE INSTANT RELIEF FROM YOUR BREASTFEEDING PROBLEMS?

individual problems uncovered that all could be cured at home, without
the help of a doctor. Surely you would want to know the best options

about the health of your baby.

nipples it that the baby is not positioned or latched on correctly.
This causes a multitude of problems and can be easy to miss for new
mothers.
LOW MILK SUPPLY. New routines to remind your body to product milk
There are plenty of other possible causes from hormonal conditions to
physical ailments such as a thyroid imbalance, insulin injections,
breast surgery and anemia. Learn about the many household causes for
low milk supply.
hyperactive letdown. Why it happens and the easy ways to correct:
Trying a position where the baby sits up, like the saddle position,
will help keep the baby from being overwhelmed with the amount of milk
available. You could also attempt feeding the baby on top of you while
you are lying down.
nursing strike. Why your baby stops eating and ways to start again
It is hard to watch your child not eat. However, it is possible to
convince your baby to come back to nursing with some patience and the
right amount of determination.
breastfeeding thrush. How to spot thrush and clear it up quickly!
If the white patches in your babies mouth stick around for several
days, this is a good sign it is thrush. Milk residue will come and go
depending on how often your child is eating.
nipple confusion. Get this step right to avoid sore nipples and
pains!
Having an artificial nipple, used on bottles, while a baby is still
learning how to nurse at the breast can be quite confusing for an
infant. This is because the latching on technique for breastfeeding
and the sucking technique and position of bottle-feeding is very
different.
