We had a small poker club in college that rapidly grew on my second
year when Poker was accepted in the mainstream society as a sport.
Many students started playing and winning a lot online, and then came
to our weekly live poker session that was played on a very
uncomfortable pool table.
To their surprise though, they lost most of their "online money" at
that game. PRIMARILY TO ME. While I deposited that "offline money" to
poker rooms and wasted it before the next weekly live game. Truth is,
I suck at ABC poker -- which is what's played online.
And no, this book is not about how to play poker. IT'S ABOUT HOW TO
READ PEOPLE. How to know what they HOLD, every single time. During my
offline poker sessions I always had a tingly feeling somewhere in the
back of my head when I suspected a bluff was taking place, so usually
I went for it and raise/reraised/all-ined. Most of the time I was
right, WINNING A LOT OF MONEY. But what I didn't know is how exactly
it works -- how to always know when you're facing a bluff, a missed
flop, or a very strong hand that wants to trap you.
About in the middle of my third semester, I started spending less
time studying, playing poker and partying -- and instead opted for
libraries. The problem was that after spending several days Googling
up info, I found there was none. No useful info on how to read poker
players whatsoever. The only option was to DIVE DEEP INTO HUMAN
PSYCHOLOGY, gather info, validate it and create a guide that WOULD
TELL ME HOW TO EXPOSE PEOPLE AT A POKER GAME.
After MONTHS OF RESEARCH, a draft of this book came up. The first
trial was conducted at that very weekly college game. Within several
hours, I had over half of chips (it was a cash game). And a bit later,
I killed the last guy in the game.
Next week - same result. So was the next week, and the one after
that. On Winter Break I went to a small local casino for a cheap $20
satelite to a $20k guaranteed event. I was the chip leader at the
satelite (of course I got the ticket) and placed 3rd on the $20k
event, WON A NICE $5K CASH PRIZE.
At that point I didn't really care much about college and spent most
of my time hanging out at casinos - AND PERFECTING MY GUIDE (which
soon turned into a book). Of course, trial and error took place, which
is also explained in detail in several chapters. But eventually, it
