Dear Future Positive Thinker,

It's a reasonable question. I'm positive because I'm a real person,
one who spent over 30 years with the military as an enlisted
technician in the Air Force and as a civilian project manager and

REBECCA A. CLAY In one study, Canli and his colleagues began by
testing participants’ levels of extroversion—the tendency to be
optimistic and sociable—and neuroticism—the tendency to be anxious and
socially insecure. The researchers then showed photographs of puppies,
ice cream, and other positive things and photos of angry people,
cemeteries, and other negative things to the participants while they
lay in an MRI scanner. The scans revealed that the extroverted
participants’ brains reacted more strongly to the positive images,
while the neurotic participants’ brains reacted more strongly to the
negative. Taking things one step further, psychologist Kevin Ochsner
has found that even people who aren’t naturally happy can harness the
power of positive thinking.

TACTICS FOR MANAGING STRESS AND ANXIETY The program's positive
