Upside Down Matches

A box of matches is turned upside down and the drawer removed. The
matches defy gravity and don't fall out until commanded to do so.

The Illusive Spots

The most effective and intriguing of all tricks are those in which
the magic happens visibly. In this one a pencilled spot appears
mysteriously on a paper match. It jumps suddenly to a second match
then back again to the first one. A second spot appears on the reverse
side of the match, then both spots jump across to the second match and
back again. Both matches then acquire spots on both sides and finally,
all four spots vanish. This is the best of all match tricks; it looks
like real magic.

CONJURING WITH COINS

Into Thin Air

A coin vanishes into thin air - then mysteriously reappears.

Invisible Flight

A borrowed and marked coin is held in the performers fist. His hand
is covered with a handkerchief which is fastened around the wrist with
a rubber band so that coin and hand are completely enclosed. In spite
of all these precautions, the coin leaves the hand travels invisibly
through the air and reappears in a hat on the other side of the room.

SORCERY WITH STRING

Through The Thumb

A length of string visibly penetrates the performers thumb.

The Miraculous Match Folder

A hole is made in the flap of a match folder with a pencil. A string
is threaded through the hole and it's ends are held by a spectator or
by two spectators. The performer throws a handkerchief over the match
folder, reaches beneath it and mysteriously removes the folder from
the string.

ROPE AND KNOT MAGIC

The Comedy Knot

The knot that misbehaves. An excellent opener for any series of rope
tricks.

The Prisoner Escapes

A quick, startling and seemingly quite impossible escape from a rope
tie which Houdini, the greatest of all escape artists, often used.

TRICKS WITH EVERYTHING

Ecocentric Rays

A trick from India. In it's original form, a Hindu fakir would ask
someone to write his initials on a pebble, throw the pebble into the
sacred Ganges River, then hold his hand out, palm toward the water.
The fakir would mutter an incantation - and the initials would
mysteriously reappear on the hand. You can perform this feat of Indian
magic at the dinner table by using a sugar cube instead of a pebble
and a glass of water in place of the Ganges.

The Linking Clips

Two paper clips link themselves together in a curious fashion. Every
child wants to learn to do a trick and this is one you can teach them
and which they can do immediately

SELF- WORKING CARD TRICKS

Instant Hypnotism

A spectator chooses one of two piles of playing cards and, without
fail, selects the one the performer has predicted he will choose. This
is a barefaced but puzzling swindle.

The Lazy Magician

The magician never touches the cards but succeeds in finding the one
the spectator is thinking of.

EASY SLEIGHT OF HAND WITH CARDS

Rifle Shuffle In The Air

Most card players shuffle by cutting the deck into two halves and
riffling them together while the cards are on the table. Many card
tricks are performed while you are standing and you should be able to
riffle shuffle the deck without resting the cards on a table. If you
can't do this here's how.

The Divining Knife

A table knife apparently acting on it's own volition, locates a
chosen card.

PREPARED CARD TRICKS

Double Discovery

Two cards are chosen by two spectators who shuffle them back into
the deck themselves. There seems to be no possible way in which the
performer could know either the identity or location of the cards and
yet both are found simultaneously.

Everyone Takes A Card

Several spectators select cards while the deck is spread face down
on the table and the magician is at some distance from it. They
replace the cards under the same conditions, anywhere in the deck.
Nothing could be fairer. It seems impossible that the magician could
find even one card - but he finds them all!

HOW TO READ MINDS

Seeing With The Fingertips

Several coloured objects are given to the magician behind his back
and he apparently distinguishes one colour from another by touch.

Numbers in the mind

The spectator begins with an unknown number, and the performer gives
the final answer without knowing the original number and without
asking any questions.

Place three coins in a row an inch or two apart. Adjust them
