My interest in auto window engraving started with a little red 1932
Ford hot rod -- a prize winning sexy little bombshell of a car I first
saw at a Southern California Hot Rod Show many years ago.
I was a young sailor in the Navy stationed on a ship (USS Galveston)
homeported in San Diego, California. One weekend my shipmate Rick and
I drove up to Long Beach, CA to check out the Southern California
Classic Hot Rod Show.
It was a show that changed my life. You see, I fell in love.
I fell in love with a gorgeous little 1932 Ford 3-window hot-rod. It
looked just like the one in this picture, but a 32'. And this sexy
little vixen of a hot rod had something very special about her.
A Young Guy's California Dream Car
With Beautiful Hand-Engraved Windows
This hot little Ford was a fully modified, chopped and decked 1932
Ford Coupe.
She had a deep gleaming Candy Apple Red paintjob. She was
beautifully pinstriped. And she was riding on plenty of power with 375
powerful horses under the hood.
She was the kind of car a young dumb 21-year-old guy like me dreamed
about! She was cherry from the wheels up. It was love at first sight.
But what made this sexy little hot rod beauty unique, was her
hand-engraved window art.
Each of her windows was a perfect work of glass engraving art!
My buddy Rick and I stood there with our mouths hanging open,
totally in love with this fiery little red beauty! Her windows had
been customized in a way we'd never seen before ... drop-dead sexy
hand engraved window art.
And judging by the way the crowds were eyeballing her window art,
this was their first time seeing such beautiful window hand engraving
window art also.
The Sexy Little Red HotRod
Was A Masterpiece of Hand Engraving
You had to see this flashy '32 Ford Coupe to believe it. Her rear
window was beautifully hand engraved and decorated with graceful
flowing hand-engraved scrollwork resembling pin striping. A feminine
subtle touch for this dazzling little lady!
I'm telling you her door windows even smelled sexy! Each window had
a display of oriental roses nestled in the upper corners, with
delicate vines and leaves curling elegantly around the entire window.
This artistic touch really appealed to the ladies in the auto show
crowds. I just stood there with a dozen other guys drooling over this
hot little dream car.
And then there was the windshield. On the sides of her windshield
were two classic oriental dragons. Again, masterfully engraved by hand
in striking detail.
Detail so fine you could see individual scales on the dragons'
backs. This was a truly beautiful display of the glass engravers
remarkable talent.
I remember thinking that it must take years to learn how to engrave
like that. I remember thinking that you'd have to be an artist to do
such detailed work. Well, I was wrong.
It doesn't take years to learn, and you don't need art talent to do
