Dear Mom,
If you’re like me you’ve probably struggled with finding the time to create healthy meals day after day.
You’re up early getting the kids ready for school, then either off to work or busy with your page long ‘To Do’ list until school’s out or later. Then it’s off to a practice or a lesson of some sort - and after that helping with homework.
If you were lucky you found time to squeeze in a quick workout somewhere during the day, because before you know its dinner time and you have to figure out how to create a meal that everyone will enjoy but still helps you lose those unwanted pounds.
You don’t have time to plan a week’s worth of menus before you head to the grocery store so you stick with the old standbys - chicken, some veggies and a few quick fixes that you probably shouldn’t be grabbing but they’re ‘easy.’
After a several days in a row of chicken, you’re bored and you’re family is ready for anything but chicken so you go out for dinner or order a pizza promising yourself that you’ll get back on track tomorrow.
But now that door is open and one bad meal turns into two and two become four - and before you know it you’re completely off track and working out just to try to maintain where you’re at instead of continuing to lose inches and pounds on the way back to your skinny jeans.
It’s Tough Being a Mom and Finding Time to Eat Supportively
There are plenty of diet books and fitness plans that teach you exactly how to lose weight - assuming you don’t have a life and can dedicate 3 hours a day to shopping for and preparing supportive meals, but apparently they didn’t consider moms when they were putting their systems together.
But what about us?
Yes, I’ve been there just like you. I get up at 5:30 to get ready for the day. I shower, eat a quick breakfast and before long I’m getting Tyler up and off to school. I fit in a quick workout around 9:00 and then I’m working until it’s time to pick Tyler up at about 3:00.
We get home, I help him with homework and then it’s off to baseball practice. If we’re lucky, we’re home by 7:45 and I rush to put together something quick for dinner.
I shop for groceries on Sunday and try to plan as best as I can for the week ahead - but inevitably I get bored during the week and have to decide between making an additional trip or two to the grocery or breaking down and going out for something fast and easy.
After falling into this pattern over the past year or so, I finally enlisted the help of my good friend and Registered Dietitian Jayson Hunter. I called him and told him I wanted to have him design me a month’s worth of healthy meal plans. But that’s not all I asked…
