Have you ever cut wood on a table saw? I have many times, but those
things still scare me. I mean think about it, you have a whirling
blade of steel, spinning at thousands of revolutions per minute with
little bits of the hardest substance known to man attached to little

One day he was by himself cutting some plywood and the plywood board
kept popping up off of the blade. Sometimes it would send the board
flying towards him at a fairly rapid pace. But this continual popping
was annoying him and one time, with a quick reflex reaction he just
quickly slammed his hand down on the plywood to push it down.
The saw blade came up through the plywood slicing all the way
through his middle finger and palm of his right hand. Pieces of flesh
and splatters of blood were everywhere.
At first he screamed and grabbed his injured hand with his other
one. He ran through the parking lot between the carpenter shop and the
main section of the sign shop yelling, "Emergency! Emergency!
Emergency!"
I was busy doing something and didn't see him run through the
building but I did hear him and saw the trail of blood across the
floor that he left behind.
He ran out of the next door and up the pathway into the front office
screaming and bleeding the whole time. They bandaged up his hand as
best they could and called for an ambulance. I'm pretty sure they put
a small tourniquet on his wrist to stop the profusely bleeding hand.
Richard spent years recovering from this injury. He had several
surgeries and skin grafts and physical therapy. His left hand had been
burned in an accident many years before so now both hands were
severely limited.
So it was with fascination one day that I saw an ad on television
for a TV show that does high-speed photography of things being shot or
blown up. I think it's called Time Warp. The reason I was fascinated
with this is because they had a guy who was going to demonstrate how
he had invented a table saw that tells the difference between flesh
and wood.
Somehow this sensor he developed would instantly stop the blade if
it touched any type of flesh. For a demonstration they would put a hot
dog on top of the piece of wood and put it through the table saw.
Amazingly it worked. Once a single tooth of that spinning wheel of
death touched that hot dog, the blade froze in place not even causing
a tiny nick on the hot dog.
But then something really amazing happened. _THE INVENTOR OFFERED TO
STICK HIS OWN THUMB INTO THE SAW BLADE TO DEMONSTRATE THE POWER OF HIS
INVENTION._ Of course, several warnings were placed on the television
screen and through the voiceover telling everyone:
"Do not do this at home! Do not attempt this!
Do not imitate this in any fashion!
These are trained professionals!
Do not do what you are about to see!"
They asked the inventor if he'd ever done this before? He said, "No,
I haven't. But I am confident in my invention."
My hands were sweating and my heart was racing waiting to see what
happened. I tried to rationalize in my mind that they are not going to
show somebody losing his thumb on worldwide television. But no amount
of convincing could reduce my elevated heart rate. I was glued to the
TV.
And with high-speed cameras running at over 5000 frames per second
always turned on, the man put his hand on the table inching his thumb
closer to the whirling blade.
The anticipation was almost more than I could bear. Memories of my
friend Richard and the terrible aftermath kept going through my mind.
I could not believe they were about to show this on TV!
The camera zoomed in right at the contact point where his thumb was
going to meet the blade. It got closer and closer in super slow
motion. I was certain I was about to witness pieces of skin and bone
sprayed onto the camera lens.
But as soon as his thumb barely touched the blade, the blade
instantly stopped and nothing happened to the mans digit.
I couldn't believe what I just saw! There wasn't even a single layer
of skin removed from this man's thumb! There was no visible sign of
injury whatsoever, not even a scratch!
It's amazing what technology has done
and what he had invented here.
Oh, if only my friend Richard could have had this technology 30+
years ago! The amazing reduction in the amount of pain and surgeries
_would have been worth anything._ The ability to use his hand
correctly would have been priceless. I believe that this man is going

But before I tell you this secret, let me ask you a question-Why do
we buy leads in the first place? On their website they almost
certainly promise you they will send you a fresh batch of red hot
leads just anxiously waiting to buy your product or service. All you
have to do is contact these people right now and they will whip out
their credit card and send you their shipping information.
And for only a few hundred dollars they will give 12,000,000 people
who fit in this "niche" category!
If you bought into that you aren't the only one, that's why there's
so many lead generation companies! I have a friend who tells me over
and over again that he has 20,000,000 names and if he can just find a
proper auto responder he can send them out and make a fortune!
One company I know of promises over 200,000 new prospects PER MONTH
if you are involved in an MLM company and join their super-duper
automatic money making company!
....There's a reason why they banned the "Spam-A-Lot-5000" e-mail
auto responders a while ago! Now if we could just ban those people
selling those lists with millions of names on them making these
outrageous claims we would all be better off!
In fact, just as I wrote this I got an email claiming that I can
send out emails to 70,000,000 people for just a small one-time fee! In
fact it started out with this "very personalized" introduction:
Hi [FIRST_NAME],
See what I mean? This idiot can't even set up his autoresponder
correctly and wants me to send him a few hundred dollars so I can do
the same thing? HE BOUGHT A LIST AND IS NOW SENDING ME A PERSONALIZED
INVITE TO MAKE UP FOR HIS LOSSES!
... Sorry for the rant. Please let me get back to my point and ask
you a question: How in the world do they get that many names in the
first place?
Here's that dirty little secret I was going to tell you about...
Did you ever fill out a form online thinking you are going to get
something for free? Don't feel bad if you did, millions of people do
every day. They were hoping for a free iPod, movie tickets, coupons,
computer, quotes for car insurance, backstage passes to concerts, etc.
etc. etc.
EVERYBODY WANTS TO GET SOMETHING FOR FREE ONLINE.
But on almost every single one of those forms offering something for
free, there is a little checkbox that needs to be checked or
unchecked. Right next to that little checkbox is some infinitesimally
small text describing what actions are going to take place by checking
it or unchecking it.
It can also occur on forms of things you actually purchased
something with. They don't just have to be on "free" sites. They can
also occur when you join popular social networking programs
like...well, I better not name them here had I? They might find me and
try to shut me down. They make money on selling your information and
we certainly wouldn't want to prevent that would we?
But back to my point...
Most people are in the habit of checking the box thinking that they
will be removed from a list and not be sent any other promotional
offers. Since they can't read that infinitesimally small text they
don't realize that in many cases leaving it unchecked produces the
result they really want.
Now their e-mail box gets flooded with all kinds of offers from
things they never ever wanted. They get quotes from payday loan
companies, offers from trial lawyers, different but more potent forms
of Viagra, etc. etc. etc.
Do you see what just happened? By not checking or unchecking that
little box, they've now been thrown into the category of "A LEAD". I'm
sure that you agree with me that I don't consider that a lead.
Yet that is what some of these lead generation companies are selling
you. Sometimes these leads have been sold hundreds of times. Now there
are a few legitimate lead generation companies, and I don't mean to
lump them all together in the same category as used car salesmen and
trial lawyers, but they are hard to find and they ALWAYS cost a pretty
penny for real leads.
But how would you like to generate your own leads for your business,
company, product, program or service?
How would you like people who are genuinely interested in what you
