I first met Martin Day (Shihan) at the beginning of the year 2000. I
attended his karate class, a first free lesson, as I had become
disillusioned with the keep fit sessions I had been taking part in
during the previous year. He has been my tutor, my mentor and my
friend ever since. During my youth I was a very active person and

advertisement for karate lessons in the same leisure centre, I jumped
at the chance. I had studied karate in my late teens, Wado Ryu, and
progressed to level 5th Kyu so I knew that this would keep me fit,
even though I had been a bit disillusioned with karate itself.

Well, seven years on and I am still attending his lessons. They are
still enjoyable and every session I feel that much stronger, fitter
and more supple. It has all really quite amazed me as I can still do
athletic things with my body and not just in my mind as most people my
age do. In fact I have never felt fitter, more flexible or more
confident in myself since my teen years.
