interview.
I guess my first question is: What exactly do you do for a
living?"
VINCE: Basically, I make affiliate sites - which I create and
promote by following a very specific system which I've created.
FRANK: So you just came up with a system out of nowhere and it
worked?
VINCE: N o. I failed alot. In fact, I was pretty desperate at
the time - I was unemployed and struggling to make a living. I had
been trying to make money from affiliate programs for almost 3 years.
But I only had a real breakthrough in the last 14 months or so, which
was when I developed this system.
FRANK: Ah I see. I hear you're fairly young, have you ever had
a normal day job before you became an affiliate marketer?
VINCE: Yeah, I've had one job - I worked 10 days in a grocery
store, but I quit. It was gun-to-the-head time for me back then,
because I had no income whatsoever. I had to make it work, no matter
what.
I think that gave me the motivation I needed to distill everything
I had learnt up until that point, and somehow turn it into a very
effective method.
FRANK: So what exactly is your method?
VINCE: You're asking for my trade secrets already?
FRANK: Yeah :-)
VINCE: haha ok, I'll tell you the basics - but I'd be here all
day if I give you the whole method - and you know I'm too lazy to sit
here typing all day.
FRANK: I understand Vince. I'd love to hear how you do this,
though.
VINCE: Ok, here goes...
WHAT FOLLOWED WAS A VERY LONG \"VINCE IS TYPING\" MESSAGE...

VINCE: There's 3 main steps to my system.
STEP 1 - MARKET RESEARCH. I do this a little differently to
most people. You see, the key principle behind everything I do is what
I call "understanding the buying cycle".
If you haven't heard of this term, it basically means the cycle
people go through, starting from having a problem, searching for
solutions, searching for different kinds of products, searching for
products by name etc. I only target people searching close to the end
of the buying cycle.
SO THIS MEANS PEOPLE ON THE VERGE OF BUYING, OR TRYING TO FIX A
PROBLEM, OR SEARCHING WITH \"ACTION-ORIENTED\" KEYWORDS. I try to
get into the mind of the searcher behind the keyword, and figure out
what they are looking for. If I see a way to recommend a product to
that person, then I would build a site around that topic.
STEP 2 - WEBSITE CREATION & CONTENT WRITING. As I said before,
I target the end of the buying cycle, But lately i've been lazy, and
I'VE JUST BEEN MAKING USER-SUBMITTED REVIEW SITES . It's actually
very easy to do this, and it fits right into my strategy, because
these searchers are as close to the end of the buying cycle you can
get. And it's great, because your users make all your content for you,
too.
I love it when others do the work for me, especially for free. It
gives my sites genuine value which means they are gonna be around in
the search engines for a _ LONG_ time - and they're _ REALLY
EASY_ to set up.
STEP 3 - TRAFFIC BUILDING. Obviously I'm not going to make any
money if nobody comes to website, so this is where I spend most of my
time. I get 95% of my traffic from search engines.
As you probably know, the key with search engines is good keyword
research (which I cover in step 1 by targetting buyers) and building
one-way-links. I use several methods to build links for free, and I
use a few automated services to really get the ball rolling.
VINCE: And that's about it. Of course there's a lot more to it
than that. I have systems within the main system, which means I don't
miss anything out. I can whizz through my method like a brain-dead
robot and still make a profitable site. But thats the gist of my
method at least.
FRANK: Wow, thanks for taking the time to outline your method
like that. It looks like an effective method, and it's different to
how I see a lot of people doing it.
VINCE: Yeah, the first sites I made (a few years ago now) were
on the wrong topics and I barely earnt enough to cover the domain
name. I remember having a website on different breeds of tropical fish
- don't know what the hell I was thinking.
FRANK: haha, So how much do your sites make for you?
VINCE: Well I'm not going to reveal my income, I know you
understand why, because you're gonna make an article out of this
interview. But my best sites are making 5 figures a year, and I have
dozens of sites which make regular sales, so all my eggs aren't in one
basket.
FRANK: Ok Vince, well thanks for doing this quick interview.
Time for one last question?
VINCE: Sure, fire away!
FRANK: What do you think is the biggest reason why 90% of
affiliates never make any money?
VINCE: Hmm... I hear most people are on the "take action"
bandwagon. But I don't agree with that - no point taking action in the
wrong direction. I think there's several things which can go wrong.
I've experienced most of them. But I'd have to say the biggest thing
is not understanding how the buying cycle works. MAKING YOUR SITE AT
THE WRONG POINT OF THIS CYCLE IS ALMOST GUARANTEED FAILURE.
But I'd like to add that EVERY STAGE IS IMPORTANT . If you get
one of the 3 main areas wrong you're only going to make spare change,
no matter how hard you work. The worse part is you can spend years
doing the wrong thing and never realize. (I know I wasted a lot of
time doing the wrong things).

Okay, that's the interview with Vince. I had to edit a _few_ things
out - but I promise I've shown you most of the juicy parts.
He also explained to me that HIS WEBSITES DO MOST OF THE WORK FOR
HIM ONCE HE GETS THE SYSTEM RUNNING. He told me it was actually pretty
simple.
He told me that most people totally over-complicate the process,
because they are missing a few key techniques for PICKING A GOOD
MARKET, GETTING A SITE BUILT, GETTING OTHERS TO WRITE THE CONTENT, AND

I asked him if this was really was so easy, then why doesn't he just

understand it, and sell it online?
He said he isn't really motivated to make any more money - he's
happy doing what he's doing, and actually using the method himself -
unlike many so-called gurus.
HE LIKES THE LAZY \"DO WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT\" LIFESTYLE THAT HIS
METHOD HAS CREATED FOR HIM. He doesn't want all the attention. Or the
hard work.
But with some pleading, begging and cajoling I PERSUADED HIM TO
WRITE A BRIEF GUIDE ON HOW HE DOES IT.
He told me to "check my inbox in one week".
WHEN HE SENT BACK THE ROUGH DRAFT _FOUR_ WEEKS LATER...
