Dear Fellow Artist,
HERE IS MY STORY. I will tell you how I went from stay-at-home mom
to working with more than 25 companies and having my art on products
sold worldwide. Your story might start differently, but wouldn't the
same ending be great?
I've always been creative. I think I've tried anything and
everything. I draw. I paint. I sew. I scrapbook. I can throw one heck
of a party. As my son grew older and I had more free time, I wanted
more.
I daydreamed about how amazing it would be to be _PAID_ to be
creative. But I couldn't see how that would happen -- I had a
marketing degree and no formal art education. I was just a 'creative
mom' and didn't think I could be an artist - at least not one who
wasn't starving.
I was_ paid_ for art for the first time by designing scrapbooking
products. I was a contributing editor for Simple Scrapbooks(tm)
Magazine for 2 years. This was all under the name "Tara Cowper".
Then I got divorced and it was make-or-break time. Time to get
serious about earning a living with art or get a "real job". The "real
job" option didn't really appeal to me. I discovered this thing called
"Art Licensing". That means that companies pay you to utilize your art
to sell their products.
Now I work with more than 25 companies. My designs can be found on
everything from fabric to dishes, greeting cards to coasters, posters
to metal wall art and more.
I work when I want to and never have to ask for time off to take my
son to the dentist. Or to go on vacation. Or to go to the movies in
the middle of the day. I'm the boss -- I decide what I want to do,
what I want to paint, how I want to run my business. I work very hard,
but on my terms. It is a wonderful thing!
If you want to learn how to get your art off the paper and onto
products, from an artist who is _DOING_ what she is teaching, you've
come to the right spot!
