Here is exactly how it works…
1) You call their 1-800 number and they set up an appointment for
you, to meet their “tax counselor” at a location near you.
2) You arrive for your appointment, at a low-rent type office space
(1-man office) or shared office suite.. You spill your guts, as
understandably, you are in an emotional situation, and proceed to
disclose your personal situation, finances and even more to this
complete stranger. To make this work, JK Harris and Company will need
you to sign a “Power of Attorney” as being absolutely necessary.
Turns out the so called “tax counselor” is actually a
high-pressure, commission-salesman. He will make promises, assertions
and guarantees that in no way can be fulfilled. His paycheck, which is
commission based, depends upon your signing the contract and paying
your ill-afforded, hard earned money. Just sign the contract and bring
your money, it’s that easy. Hell, my wife and I were so serious in
getting our tax situation worked out, my wife and I paid JK Harris and
Company almost $2,500 .
3) Once the promises have been made, guarantees implied and taking
your money, you are off to the races in getting this living nightmare
to end, right? WRONG! After we paid our money, JK Harris and Company
had nothing else to do with us.
There is nothing worse than someone trying to sell you something by
negatively attacking their competition. We are not attacking anybody,
as JK Harris and Company is not our competition, because for the
$2,500.00 I spent with JK Harris and Company, I received Nothing!
BEFORE YOU START TO THINK, WE ARE JUST SLAMMING JK HARRIS AND
COMPANY, BECAUSE OF A BAD EXPERIENCE, PLEASE READ A FEW THINGS OTHER
FOLKS WENT THROUGH WITH THEM. JUST READ THEM AND CLICK THE LINK TO

They promise the moon and deliver nothing. I'm actually worse off
now with IRS interest and penalties than I was before I contacted
J.K.Harris. Stay away from them. They'll take your money and (after
you've paid in full of course) shrug their shoulders and say sorry,
the IRS says you've got to pay every dime.
When I signed up with J.K.Harris 4 years ago, I had an IRS debt of a
little over $30,000. They said they had 'experienced tax
professionals' who would work with the IRS to reduce my debt to about
$5,000. Needless to say, I was elated and signed up to pay them $3,600
over 12 months. During that year, I had to gather copies of all my
financial information (bank statements, paystubs, previous tax
returns, etc) and send them to J.K.Harris so they can forward them to
the IRS (something I could have easily done myself) about every 3
months. During this time, the IRS sent notices to me asking for
payment, notices of Intent to Levy my pay, etc. I was advised by
J.K.Harris not to respond - they (J.K.Harris) are dealing with the IRS
and any communication from me would 'complicate' matters. Every time I
called J.K.Harris for an update, my case had been re-assigned to a new
person who had no idea what was going on, but said she'd find out and
call back (never ONCE was a call returned to me). Everyone I spoke
with at J.K.Harris (and there were a LOT of different people I spoke
with) had no accounting or IRS training or experience whatsoever.
They're just a bunch of phone jockeys that do nothing buy stall your
questions while they're waiting for your next payment. And then as
soon as they're paid in full and can't suck any more money out of you,
they tell you 'Hey, sorry. We tried. IRS says you've gotta pay. Nice
knowing you.' Any complaints are referred to J.K.Harris’ Oversight

JK Harris promises to help you. Like the previous review they don't
return calls and always switch your case worker, no one ever knows
anything and the only way I came to an agreement was because I too was
contacted by the irs and it turns out that I owed WAYYYY less than
what I thought . JK harris never caught on to that. They are
decievers. My advice is to STAY AWAY FROM JK HARRIS. They will take
all of your money and you will end up with a year or more of non
returned calls non submitted paperwork and the IRS still on your
***!!!
Originally signed up with JK Harris by meeting with a
representative at a local office. He went over all my information and
told me that hecould get my IRS and FTB debts down to about $7500
each, which as considerably lower than what I owed. I was eager to get
this resolved so I signed up with JK Harris. The fee was about $4800
to resolve the tax liability. I had some cash problems, but in July
2007 I paid JK Harris in full.
On July 13, 2007 I received an e-mail from Melissa stating that they
had received all my paperwork and a case specialist would be getting
in touch with me. Upon speaking to the case specialist
a week or so later, he told me he had all the information he needed
and he was preparing my offer in compromise. At this time I owed
approximately $120,000 to the IRS and approximately $19,000 to the
FTB. (Taxes for 2002 thru 2004 had already been paid to the FTB by
liens on my home and my bank accounts. JK Harris did nothing to stop
the liens!)
After months of arguing with this person because she was treating me
as though I was the enemy instead of treating me like she was there to
help, I have been assigned another case specialist. Now its September
2008 and I finally received my offer in compromise. The offer is to
pay the FTB $27,000 lump sum (on a $19,000 debt) and the IRS $21,000
lump sum or $48,000 in payments. My debt to the IRS with interest and
penalties has grown to $213,000 because of JK Harris not taking care
of
this in a timely manner!
In the last year I have lost my home, my job and am deep in debt. I
have nothing left. Every time I see a JK Harris commercial, I want to
throw up! This company should be put out of business for false
advertising! I wish I would have read consumer complaints before I
wasted my money! IRS debt has grown from approximately $120,000 to
$213,000 with interest and penalties.
I paid JK Harris a substantial amount of money to handle my
problem with the IRS. After a while JKHarris informed me that they
could not do anything about my problem with the IRS. I asked for a
refund of the money I paid them. They said they would refund $2062.00
of my money back. This was in March of 2008. They said it would take
between 90 and 120 days. In july when the time was up they said it
would not be until August 22nd. When August 22nd came, they claimed
they could not refund my money at this time, and, that they had no
idea when they would be able to return it. I am seeking your help in
obtaining my refund from JKHarris tax consultants thank you.
_WE COULD GO ON-AND-ON, AND WE WILL..._
Well, I have a 3 months baby on my hand so not much time to
describe what JK Harris company done to me. I wish I had seen this
page prior to going to them. What I have to say can be said in a few
words. JK Harris company/workers are a bunch of thieves, and instead
of helping they make matters worse by taking your money and do then do
nothing. I wish there was a way we could get them off the air. Every
time I see their commercial it make me so angry that such mess has a
right to do what they do to innocent hurting people.I am still in the
same mess I was in, after they took me for my money and did not even
make a phone call on my behalf. Someone need to do something to stop
these thieves.
Here's my situation with them...
I feel completely mislead by the JKHarris person who "sold" me into
this.
I signed up with them in March of 2006...
I thought paying JKHarris 5000k would make me sleep better, but
honestly I still feel this hanging over my head and it keeps getting
worse. I don't know what can be done about this, but I CANNOT, and
WILL NOT enter into a offer I to which I never knowingly or willingly
agreed.
I signed up with them after several months of unemployment, when I
had finally picked up a real, long term full time position. I did all
the paper work, turned in all the financial documents, etc. The
SALESPERSON (I know that now...experienced tax professional my eye)
told me that with my lowish income and expenses, and the deductions
allowed by the state I ended up with a deficit of $800 each month, so
I would most certainly qualify as a person without the means to pay,
or if I had to pay anything it would be a few hundred dollars. After
carrying this around with me for years, I felt great that I finally
was dealing with this.
Fast forward 3 months, to when I get GARNISHED BY THE STATE. I
called JK Harris (My previous rep was nowhere to be found) and was
told there was nothing they could do about that, even though the irs
and the ftb were no longer supposed to contact me, according to JK
Harris.
I was garnished for nearly 2 years, while paying $400 to JKHarris,
as well as the $400 per month garnishment.
When I did get a hold of my representative, she informed me that
they had mislaid my paperwork and I had to resubmit NEW bank
statements, etc, because the 3 month old ones were too old. So, I did.
Several months go by...nothing. When I call again I have another
agent (this makes it #3) and while I like her, I have to resubmit
EVERYTHING ALL OVER AGAIN. By this time I had a raise, and was living
a bit better. So I resubmitted it. AGAIN. THIRD TIME.
That was late summer or fall. I told my rep i needed to get this
over with because the lien was impacting my credit and I couldn't
improve my rating with the lien in place. I FINALLY GOT MY FINISHED
PAPERWORK in February. Valentines day, which coincidentally, was the
SAME DAY I'D BEEN LAID OFF FROM MY JOB.
I'd also had an unexpected need for surgery earlier in 2008, and had
called my agent about that, because I wanted to know how the new
expenses of several thousand dollars would affect my case. No
response.
SO, when I got laid off, I came home and there was the JK Harris
letter. I'd already sent my rep an email from work before I left that
day letting her know I'd been laid off, and requesting assistance on
my case in that regard. But when I opened the package and found that I
had "agreed" to an immediate payment of $2000.00 + the check for 150
I'd already paid for, I flipped. I called and called and
emailed...nothing. I began to think she no longer worked there.
She finally called me back last week on my cell phone but never
mentioned having heard from me or the situation or anything. I can't
get reception on my cell when I'm home, so I missed that call.
I just sent her and them a letter via email fairly closely worded to
his complaint, but can anyone here give me advice? Ican't afford
anything right now, and I feel like they dragged their feet so long I
think I'm screwed.
