What you may not know...
It's all about influence during a job interview. Learning interpersonal skills to ensure you're sending the right message is extremely important to an effective interview. Candidates with great personal traits do MUCH better in an interview...and there's a reason for that! You must know what that reason is before your next interview.
Certainly, your success in a job interview is dependent on how well you answer questions, in fact interviewers are trained to find out what you know and check for compatibility (your ability to fit in). A problem arises for many interviewers: They don't know how to gauge compatibility.
That's why YOU have to make it easy for an interviewer!
Typically, an interview goes like this: list the competencies for the job, conduct an interview, check references, then make a hiring decision based on a gut feeling. Yep, base a decision on how you feel about the candidate, not necessarily facts.
The Korn/Ferry International Executive Recruiter Index (Part IV) released in 2004, showed that 68.7% job applicants fabricated reasons for leaving prior jobs, 68.2% exaggerate results and accomplishments, and 45.2% enhanced previous job responsibilities.
Looks like it's hard to find good information related to capability and competency. SOME interviewers know they can't fully rely on information given by the candidate, so they'll rely on other information to make hiring decisions.
Compatibility, (as well as salary , reference, and tenure), are enormous factors in hiring a successful employees.
Behavioral questions helps to gauge compatibility, but that's the informational side of the equation. The interviewer will still look at the personality of the candidate.
You can manage what the interviewer sees during the interview.
You've got to plug into the interviewer's subconscious desire to select an employee based on compatibility. The best interview tips you can get will focus on YOUR BEHAVIORS during an interview. You don't see your interactions with others, so you don't see the many mistakes you make in your social connections.
Do you quickly move your eyes away from someone else's eyes who you're meeting for the first time? Do you begin to ramble in a panic, as you try to fill what you perceive as an awkward silence?
