Dear Tatiana,
I am now thinking of 'upgrading' my SBI template in two ways.
I would like to spruce up the look - I like its present colors - but it is all a bit plain...

I don't think I need a full CSS template but please tell me if you differ. At present I'm concerned about cost - I can hardly afford this but I think my site has everything to gain by having a good professional look, especially since traffic is growing.
I think my needs fall somewhere between the SBI template and the full redesign but I'm not sure. I would therefore appreciate your taking a look at my site and letting me know what you would charge to do what I am asking - and indeed if what I'm asking makes any sense at all.
One more thing ... the one CSS thing I would need is a CSS style sheet rather than a full CSS template... hope that makes sense!

An idea was born! I developed a transition template from “block-by-block” to “upload your own” to give SBIers like Leyla more options when it comes to the Look and Feel of their online businesses.
The transition template is so easy to use and manage!
If you know enough HTML to use blocks, you can use my transition template!
It uses the same format as the SBI general template. You still use the SBI navigation bar (if you want), tables and forms, but now you can also take advantage of a CSS – style sheet.
Uploading your own gives more flexibility for the design, layout, using the space, placing items, etc., especially if you are using or plan to use CSS.
CSS = "Cascading Style Sheet" is a powerful tool on managing your fonts: size, color, position, alignment, and a lot of other things, that will update all your pages - using it - in a snap.
CSS, plus the use of Include files is even more powerful - making the whole process of building and updating pages, very easy and even fun :)
If you use a WYSIWYG software or do coding by hand, your work will be the same as building your pages using the -block-by-block- system - actually easier.
The template has a 3-column and 2-column layout design (depending on your needs) and everything you've ever dreamed of having to build a professional looking site on your own:
Use your current design. The layout is based on a 725 pixels wide table, so you don't have to change your design. Just take the elements you have been using for your -block-by-block- site design and place them into the template. (I'll tell you how.) Easy navigation bar. You can use the SBI navigation bar, or a custom text based navigation. In both cases, the update will automatically appear on all your pages. Work with SBI features. You can easily add your -SBI toc- on the first page exactly like working with the block-by-block system. Increase subscribers. I insert the submission to your e-zine form on the 3rd column (as I normally do for all custom designs for -upload your own-). It's more noticeable and doesn't take up valuable online real estate on your home page. Share good news. I insert a place on the 3rd column where you can put important announcements for your site. Updating is a snap. Easy google ads. I provide lots of place holders for all kind of google ads and other advertising (even below the navigation bar). I'll show you how to make the place holders invisible until you need them. Better navigation. I conceived a bottom navigation system that will make your site more organized and easier to access (as I always do for the custom designs). Improved Look and Feel. You'll get easy-to-follow instructions on how you can change and improve your Look and Feel using the style sheet: background color, headings, different text spots, links, and more! Redesign and update. I provide very easy instructions on how to (re)design and update your pages.

The whole template is based on - include files - I've created them all for you and give you full instructions on how you can easily use, update, and upload them to the SBI server, along with your pages.
To better understand how this template can improve your web site, here is a basic example. Let's say you have chosen the Beauty template from SBI central: Look & Feel.
1. When you select this style for your site, this is mainly what you have:
2. You apply the template I create and you obtain the same basic Look and Feel with 3 columns
3. Doing small changes to the style sheet, you can easily change your Look and Feel
4. On tier-2 and tier-3 pages you add your google ads and other ads using the -include- files I provide
Why build a 725 pixels wide design?
If your page is too wide, people with medium resolution screens cannot see it entirely – they have to scroll right. This may make them leave your page!
Remember, your visitors won't spend time on a boring or unattractive site. If they don't see what they like, or if they have to look for information, they just leave.
I've noticed that some SBI-ers are using a kind of “artificial” right column on their pages, like here for example:
Well I don't know who came out first with this idea or how it spread — that's not my concern — but just think for a moment:
- When SBI developed a 725 pixels wide layout for its templates… don't you think it was for a good reason?
- The answer is YES, it was. A web page shouldn't be wider than 725 - 750 pixels if you want to keep your visitors around.
Do you want your page to be larger than 725 pixels?
Using my template, you can make the change in a matter of 5 minutes -
you can build your site at 750 pixels wide - [it can look like this](http://www.brilliantbreastfeeding.com/),

you can make it extensible (adaptable to the screen width and resolution) - in case you really want to cover the entire screen...

Do you want a custom - text based navigation instead of the SBI navbar?
Using my template you can easily achieve that too. All you have to do is to insert your links into already done navigation and choose the colors you want. You have to do this only once, and all your pages will be automatically updated.

David, an old client of mine, was trying to do a 3-column design on his own and got stuck...;)

Many many thanks for my template!
I have to say I'm so technologically challenged that even the word template made me cringe - let alone CSS and the like. But this was quite painless.
The template is simple, easy-to-use, and very straightforward. I get everything I want - the three columns, the newsletter box, and all my includes files - without the stuff I don't need. Changing everything over is simple. I try to do a page a day so I still have plenty of time to build new content.
It all works!
And thanks so much for the logo redesign. Not that I mind the original SBI templates, but I really did want to have something more personalized. Thanks especially for listening to my suggestions for changes - I've now got exactly what I want!
