My name is Wei Ke Xiao.
I was born in a poor farming village in southern China.
In my childhood life,
I was hungry,
VERY HUNGRY.
From age 7,
I started to help my family on all kinds of works,
at home, and
in the fields.
I dropped out of middle school at age 13,
came to America at age 17,
and spoke almost NO English.
I went straight to high school in New York,
and at age 20, I could speak broken English.
With a humble background like that and spoke only broken English,
I then started using a formula,
which I'm about to share with you,
to improve my English fluency.
Six months later, the formula turned my broken English into fluent English!
I graduated high school,
graduated college with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology,
and a master's degree in Space Studies.
The formula was easy, time-saving, and most importantly, effective!
After using the formula, I heard my boss said,
“Your English is good! You just have a LITTLE bit of accent. You're 99% correct!”
After talking to a friend on the phone for a moment,
the friend asked,
“ What did you do?”
I said, “What do you mean?”
He said, “Your English! It's GOOD!”
I could hear the word “good” was coming from his heart.
He said the word “good” with a tone so strong that anyone could feel the energy was coming his heart.
Two of my cousins, one was born in America and other came to America at age two, asked me,
“How come your English is so good?”
I was complimented by the question because the question was asked by two native speakers,
but the question reflected a message – my strategy was working.
Six months,
6 months.
That was how long it took,
to turn my broken English into:
My boss was correct,
I still had a little bit of accent,
but I didn't stop there.
I later used another strategy that completely turned my fluent English into native English.
I called the strategy the Open Throat Strategy.
The Open Throat Strategy turned my English 100% native that
all new people I talked to over the phone would absolutely think that they were talking with a 100% native speaker.
When my son was in first grade,
I went to his school to read to his class as a guest reader.
His teacher was completely upset because I completely looked like I couldn't speak English,
which could mean bad influence to her class.
But, then...
His teacher was completely stunned...
when she heard me speak.
I saw her eyes widened for about five seconds then followed by a long smile.
She watched quietly as I inspired her students enjoying the fun of the book
by talking with 100% enthusiasm and
talking in 100% native English.
She then suddenly jumped into actions by taking out her camera and started taking pictures and
asked if she could put a picture on her class newsletter,
which I happily agreed.
She later asked if I could participate more to help her in her class activities.
I'm not saying this to impress you.
I'm saying this to impress upon you that
it IS possible for an adult foreigner to learn English and speak like a native.
But first, you should go step-by-step.
Here is the formula that turn my broken English into fluent English.

Follow exactly the same steps in sequence,
to turn your English into
Step 1: Decide What You Want
Congratulations! You've already decided what you want.
My guess is you want to speak fluent English.

The word "decide" is originated from Greek, meaning to cut off from.
Once you've decided on what you want,
you cut off from any other possibililty and focus only on the one you've decided to work on.
Clarity is power.
The more clear you are on what you want,
the more you empower your brain to come up with answers.
You must focus on what you want
mentally,
emotionally,
socially,
spiritually,
intellectually,
so that you have a driving force behind your behavior to achieve what you want.

But you must know exactly what you want!
You must set your target in place, so you have a target to shoot at.
Once you've decided on exactly what you want, it's critical that you continue focusing on your target.
That's "Focusing" on your target.
You haven't shot any arrows at your target yet.
Step 1 is just setting your target in place.
In review, your target is what you want; what you want is your target.
With that in mind, you're now ready to take Step 2.
Step 2: Take Actions.
Now is time to take actions!
Take actions to make things happen!
Once you have set your target in place, you'll need to take out your bow and arrow and shoot.
"Shoot" is your action.
Once you have decided on what you want, you'll need to get what you want.
"Get" is your action.
It does NOT matter what we CAN do.
It does matter what we WILL do.
Take a look at this:
After you set your target, but you don't shoot at your target, how are you going to hit your target?
After you decided on what you want, but you don't get what you want, how are you going to have what you want?
Look at me in these two situations:
1. If: I can speak English like a native speaker, I have a college degree in Information Technology, I have a graduate degree in Space Studies, I live in the United States of America, a free society where everything is possible.
With all these potential powers, I CAN do a lot of things, but if I WILL NOT do anything, I WILL NEVER achieve anything.
2. If: I can't speak good English, I don't have money for private lessons, I don't have much time to learn English.
With all these limitations, I CAN'T do a lot of things to speak fluent English, but if I WILL do something to speak fluent English, I CAN still achieve some fluency.
It's not what we CAN do that makes a difference in life; it's what we WILL do that makes a difference in life.
When I was 20,
I knew I wanted to speak fluent English, and
I took actions to improve my English.
And I DID turn my broken English into fluent English.
My actions got me far better results than what I intended to get.
Not only did my actions turn my broken English into fluent English;
my actions even turned my fluent English into native English!
So take actions to get what you want.
Literally get going to get what you want.
Take actions today!
Step 3: Follow Through
Once you've decided on what you want, and
you're taking actions to do what you wanted,
keep working on it.
Follow through until you succeed!
Turning your English into fluent English is a job that takes more than a day.
Keep taking actions day by day to achieve it.
Start small, and
start building your fluency day by day.
Let's look at this example.
If you want to lift heavy weight,
you start by lifting a small weight day by day.
You keep increasing the amount of weight little by little, day by day.
Before you know it,
you've already built enough muscles to effortless lift the weight that seemed impossible before.
When I started to improve my English,
I started by taking one single action.
The next day,
I took one more action.
I kept taking the same actions day by day.
Three months,
I had already build enough fluency that I started to hear people said that my English was good!
I followed through by kept building my fluency little by little, day by day.
Another three more months later,
Walla!
I started to speak English fluently!
If you just build your fluency by just 1% a day and keep building,
Imagine what your fluency will be six months later .
You would have built enough fluency to speak English that seemed impossible before!
