John 14
26. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
We are to be taught all things, not just those of God, but all things by the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 7
20. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Those who develop a relationship will know they are saved, they will have no doubt about it, where those who do not will always have at least a tiny piece of doubt floating around in them. And if that were the only reason to hear from God it would be good enough but there is more, so much more that only God can teach us and give us revelation in.
