MASSAGE THERAPY CAREERS
Do you have what it takes to become a massage therapist?
Do you feel passionate about getting massages enough that you now
want to start giving massage professionally?
Are you wondering if it is possible at your age or wondering how
much you can really make as a massage therapist?
Do you have a deep burning desire to have a more meaningful career -
helping others (or as you will find out- learning to be of service to
others?)
Do people tell you that you have good hands and a compassionate
heart and suggest that you go into massage?
Have you been helped by massage with some condition or injury that
no doctor could help you with?
While these are some of the reasons why people are drawn to the
massage profession, they are also the very same things that will lead
to burnout in the massage profession or lack of success in finding a
high paying job or building a successful massage practice.
Choosing a career today is more about choosing something you are
passionate about - something that inspires you and creates a burning
desire to be a part of. The days of working just to get by and make a
living are now focused on doing what you love.
Is a career in massage going to bring that passion and feeling of
aliveness into your life? And how can you keep that feeling when you
are faced with the difficulties of massage school and paying the
bills?
No matter what profession you choose, your chances of success are
more about YOU than what the challenges are. Your desires, persistence
and faith in yourself and your ability to get what you want is really
what matters.
The search for a career like anything else in our lives is really
about the search for wholeness - the search for your true self. So
much of our lives are lived trying to live up to someone else's
expectations and making choices that are safe and provide security. We
make choices to please parents, spouses and significant others so that
we will be accepted and appreciated. While we all make choices this
way, how can we get down to choosing a career that is meant for us?
How can we find a career that just fits like a glove?
Before you decide whether or not a massage therapy career is for you
and before you decide which massage school to go to, be sure to read
this website in it's entirety. If you can get through the whole site
and then still say "Yes I want to go to massage school", you will be
the most informed massage therapist and have a greater chance of a
successful _and_ rewarding career than any other.
Why? Because most of what you will be hearing from massage schools
are about filling their classes with warm bodies. They are in business
to make money and that requires having a constant supply of students.
While they aren't lying (for the most part) they just are not telling
the whole truth -they are marketing the massage profession to you. (
OK- there are many good schools out there who do care.)
So hopefully you will find this information at least interesting and
food for thought.
I am writing this after 18 years as a successful massage therapist
in Seattle WA so I only write about what I know and have experienced
and seen.
A massage therapy career can be a very rewarding path - both
financially, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
I saw this once on a bumper sticker "A dream is a wish that your
heart makes". A massage therapy career is all about following your
heart.
