IV. Patience First:
Understand that troubleshooting computers takes patience. Lots.
Which do you think has more patience...you, or the computer?
Between You and the Computer, which is more likely to make an error?
Let's assume YOU the USER, has made a simple error, like leaving a
"non bootable" floppy disk in the floppy drive, expecting the computer
to realize you didn't mean to do that, and "just forget" it (the
floppy drive) is in the boot sequence, and figure out where it (the
computer) is suppose to boot from. It won't. It will give you an "NT
loader boot failure" message, and hang (do nothing). The same will
happen with a non-bootable USB thumbdrive.
So assume a mistake was made by some human first. In other words,
look for human mistakes.
With this in mind, take a look at what you have, and retrace all
that you have done, or someone else has done, or not done. I have been
called out to government Naval installations to troubleshoot a
computer that "would not even power up/start", only to firmly insert
the removable power supply (military norm), press the "on" button, and
leave.
Make sure you connect the power cable; check the power strip if
there is one, and the laugher in homes you knowthat especially
convenient extra light switch that supplies power to a wall socket
that must be toggled "ON" for "that" socket to work. Make sure to
check all your external sources of power, and external devices, i.e.,
keyboard, mouse, monitor, LAN (Local Area Network-Ethernet cable).
Make sure all peripherals connected with power and data cables are
true from and to its source. Get out your motherboard manual and
confirm the case led's and switch(es) connectors are connected to the
correct header pins on the motherboard. The motherboard manual or
sticky that came with it should clearly mark correct connections.
