"The Food Plan Is
Really Awesome!"
As a teenager
the thought of going on a diet really sucks because you think
about all of the horrible foods you're probably going to have
to eat. But this plan is really good. I would eat a lot of
these foods anyway. The weight loss plan just shows you
how to put them together to lose
weight.

AMDear Friend,
Ring The
Alarm!
Teenagers in
the
United States
are facing a crisis. It is a
crisis that is threatening to cut short the future and lives of many
young Americans in this country. This crisis has nothing to do with
guns, drugs, or gangs. This crisis is much closer to home. In fact,
this crisis has it's roots in the homes of teens all
accross this country . This crisis involves food. More
specifically, the effects of unhealthy diets. Diets that are
responsible for creating millions of obese and overweight teenagers.
Roughly 16 % of teenagers in the United States
are overweight or obese, a figure that has tripled in the last 40
years. While being overweight has alarming and definite effects on a
teen's health, just as painful are the damaging
taunts , teasing, and bullying
from other
kids. As a result, many teens become depressed, anti-social and even
do poorly in school.
Overweightteen.com reports that:
"The
psychological consequences of obesity for kids is piling up. A
recent survey reveals that obese children rate their quality
of life as low as those of young cancer patients undergoing
chemotherapy.
Other
studies are reporting increased rates of depression, low
self-esteem and social isolation, which are than manifest in
significant behavioral problems. As these children grow up,
they are less likely to be accepted into college, less likely
to get married, and more likely to occupy a lower
socioeconomic status"
This
is a very steep price to pay for a condition that
can be remedied once you and your teen have the correct tools to
combat it.

will
face the following future:
Type 2 Diabetes
Hypertension
Cardiac Arrest
Sleep Apnea
Disease of the Kidneys
Nerve Damage
Greater Likelihood
of Adult Obesity
Problems with the Knees and
Joints
Poor Academic Performance
Type 2 Diabetes: Type 2 diabetes
used to primarily be a condition that affected adults over the
age of 40. Today, adolescents and teens make up 30%-
45% of new cases . A vast majority of these
teens are extremely overweight. The long term effects
of type 2 diabetes are blindness, amputation, kidney disease,
heart attack, stroke and hardened arteries.
Hypertension: Being overweight
can create or make hypertension worse. Being overweight
increases the risk of hypertension approximately 6 times higher.
Being obese increases the risk eight times.
Cardiac Attack: Being overweight
effects the heart beginning in adolescents . An enlarged
heart and pumping dysfunction can be seen by the age of
20.
Sleep Apnea: Sleep apnea
is a sleeping disorder characterized by short gaps in breathing
while sleep. Overweight teens typically suffer from this
sleep disorder in greater percentages.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): CKD is typically caused
by the condition of diabetes and high blood pressure.
These conditions are increasing in teens that are overweight.
Greater Likelihood of Adult Obesity:
Overweight teens have a 70% chance of becoming
overweight or obese adults, leading to Type 2 diabetes, hypertension,
heart disease and osteoporosis.
Problems with Knees and Joints: Teenagers that
are overweight are more likely to have problems
with fractures, joint pains and mobility.
Poor Academic Performance:
Overweight teens miss more school than children of average weight,
they report a lower quality of life, and get bullied more
at school.

The
Healthy Teen Diet
The Healthy Teen
Diet is a weight loss program that emphasizes well-rounded,
weight loss and nutrition. It is not some fad diet that cuts
out or restricts important food groups or severely cuts calories.
Teenagers need a certain amount of calories because their
bodies are growing. An extremely restrictive diet is not recommended.
Instead good, balanced nutrition and
physical activitiy are the keys to weight loss in teenagers.
The Healthy Teen Diet works by first determining how
many calories an individual teen's body needs and then calculates
the amount of calories that need to be consumed daily, in
order to reach one's desired weight! It's not a
one-size-fits-all diet, but a system that is tailored for
the individual. The healthy teen diet encompasses
proper diet, and physical exercise
