As you know, my name is Dave Soucy. I am a Fitness Expert,
Instructor, Author, Certified Personal Trainer and owner of Perfect

AN UNHEALTHY LIFESTYLE

regularly, all that airport, hotel and restaurant food wasnt doing me
any good either. I was in denial of course, but the reality was the
weight was piling on.
I had no energy when I got home. I barely had the energy to get
through the day without five cups of coffee. Ever have that feeling
around 2 PM where youd give anything just to be able to take a 15
minute nap at your desk?
I was there every day.
I was so tired, Id have to drag myself out of bed in the morning.
Then coffee would get me through the day. And once I got home, Id
usually fall asleep on the couch after dinner. Of course, this would
mean I wouldnt be able to fall asleep later when I went to bed, and
the next day the cycle repeated.
BUT I DONT HAVE TIME TO EXERCISE
How many times have you said that? I know I used to fairly often.
Okay, daily.
When you can barely drag your butt out of bed in the morning, park
it behind a desk or on a plane all day, then pass out on the couch
after dinner, how are you supposed to find time to work out, right?
Throw in the fact that I live with a chronic back injury that had me
in pain most days, and working out was about the last thing on my
list.
Truthfully, it wasnt even on the list.
But you know what? At that point I really didnt even think about it
that much. I was only in my 30s, with a big title, big salary, got to
travel and go on vacations. Spent a couple of weeks in Alaska, checked
out the geysers at Yellowstone, drank wine in Napa, climbed a pyramid
and snorkeled in the Yucatan, went on a handful of Caribbean cruises.
But, finally something happened that changed my life and put my
health and fitness on the list.
THERES NO PRIZE FOR BEING THE RICHEST GUY IN THE GRAVEYARD
On a whim (and since it had been years since Id had one), I decided
to go see my doctor for a routine physical. Blood pressure was a
little high, and obviously the weight was an issue, but for the most
part, things looked good. But, based on some less than stellar family
history, my doctor decided it would be prudent for me to undergo a few
more tests.
Long story short, a couple of weeks later I had the pleasure of
having a pre-cancerous colon polyp removed. Good times.
Given that the Centers for Disease Control states that the typical
Western diet (red meat, fried foods, low fiber... gee, sounds like
airport and hotel food to me) can raise the risk of colon cancer, if
my doctor had gone the standard route and waited until I was 50 for a
colonoscopy, I might never have made it to 50.
Thatll sober you up pretty quickly. I realized that maybe finding
time to eat right and exercise would be a good thing to do.
MAY AS WELL JUMP RIGHT IN THE DEEP END
So, not only did I decide to embark on a fitness program, I decided
to pursue a fitness lifestyle and career. I left the internet career,
and began to study exercise, nutrition, and fitness. I discovered why
my previous attempts at exercise were often ineffective, and why all
of the fad diets and gimmicks out there dont work. I actually realized
that those crazy diets are one of the main reasons that more and more
people are overweight or obese in this country!
I took what I learned and began applying it to myself, and you know
what? Great things happened.
I started losing body fat and gaining muscle.
My resting heart rate and blood pressure dropped.
I had more energy. I didnt pass out after dinner any more, and I
actually slept better and cut back on the caffeine! I learned that it
wasnt that I was always too tired to exercise, _it was that I was
always tired because I didnt exercise!_
