I relied on being able to always workout at a fully equipped gym.
If you’re a busy dad (or mom) like me, you know you can’t count on always being able to workout at a fully equipped gym. The demands and responsibilities of your kids and family are simply too variable, and they are obviously the top priority. Meaning, if you’re relying on a plan that requires a well-stocked gym, you’re going to end up skipping a looooot of workouts.
Critical Solution #1 → Instead of relying on the gym, we created at home workouts that I could complete in 30 minutes (or less) when Elias goes down for his nap.
I assumed I’d always have 60-90 minutes for my workouts.
I know many self-professed fitness experts will disagree with me on this...but the truth is your workouts do NOT need to be an hour long (or more) to get results. If you have a plan to follow (instead of haphazardly doing a few burpees and pushups), you will still get awesome results.
Why do I say that?
Well, because that’s exactly what I—and everyone else who has tried this method—have done. And we’ve all got the results to show for it.
Critical Solution #2 → Short, intense sweaty sessions that are capped at 30 minutes (the perfect length to squeeze in during nap time).
I restricted what and how much I ate to the point where I hated sitting down to eat.
You may have heard this before: “the best diet you can follow is the one that you can stick to.”
For myself, and I imagine you as well, boring, restrictive diets are simply not sustainable. The food sucks, not being able to go out to eat sucks, and one can only eat so much bland, boring, cardboard-flavoured food before you snap and raid the fridge for all your kids snacks. Food should add to your quality and enjoyment of life, not take it away.
Critical Solution #3 → Rather than eating plain, boring containers of meat and veggies, I created delicious, fat loss friendly recipes that the entire family enjoys.
I wasn’t moving my body enough.
It’s one thing to lift weights and watch what you eat, but many people don’t realize (myself included) is that movement itself is a huge part of burning fat, and living lean. For example, think of how much fighters are moving in their training, and in their fights.
