That was me 10 years ago.

 

 




Like so many women, I fell into my abusive love-affair with cardio because of those 5 little words…

“I need to lose weight”.




Summer was coming up and I wanted what so many of us want – to confidently rock a bikini. I was tired of pretending to “like” my bulky bathing suit and strategically hiding behind other people in photos

I trained for months to tackle my first 10K, my first half-marathon, then a full, then another, then an ultra. 

I was signing up to every race in the area, finishing running clinics in my neighborhood, becoming obsessed.

I was eating “healthy” and keeping to “clean”, unprocessed foods.




My friends and co-workers admired my persistence and I talked about running to anyone who would listen.

There was however the elephant in the room…















Five years of running and eating healthy… dozens of races… thousands of miles logged… but I looked almost exactly the same as when I started.




There was no massive transformation! No abs! No defined arms! My thighs still chafed!




I told myself that I didn’t care. I was proud of my accomplishments and surely I was “healthy”. I ignored the nagging pains in my knees and an obvious recent weight gain. I just accepted that this was as good as it could get.

Dr. Antonella Kahler graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Health Sciences program at McMaster University before obtaining her Doctorate Degree from the University of Toronto. She was one of 20 Nationwide recipients of the $80 000 scholarship by TD Bank for Leadership and Academic Excellence.

Antonella excelled in a multitude of courses on human physiology, nutrition, anatomy, psychology, biochemistry and has an academic publication in the Canadian Journal of Pain. She has spoken at conferences, education seminars and charity events in Canada and the United States.

Antonella joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was a Military Member for 9 years, challenging herself on a physical and mental level while learning about teamwork and perseverance. She is a platinum member recipient of the Canadian Forces Awards for Physical Excellence and has organized multiple group training initiatives for her command team.

Antonella has a history of training and competing in various forms of dance, long distance running, horseback riding, bodybuilding, Olympic Weightlifting, CrossFit, Muay Thai, and many other sports.
