You get your schedule. It’s a 5/2 – 5/3, That’s 5-12 hour shifts on and 2 days off. Next work week is 5-12 hour shifts on and 3 days off. That 2 – 3 day weekends, twice a month so to speak.
Now understand this job is local. You sleep in your own bed every night. You get to kiss your family good night and tell your children sweet dreams. Your wife gets to sleep in your arms every night of the week. This is the best way in trucking, that I found, to build a life, a family, and a future.
Your job requirements: You show up at the yard at 5-6 am depending on your schedule. You’ll tip your hood and check your fluids. You get in and crank the truck and log on. Electronic logs and dispatch. Once you have gotten on the clock you get out and finish your pre-trip inspection.
This is an hourly driving job that pays on your log. You get paid for every minute you log.
When you get back into the truck your dispatch is on the computer. 4 pickups and 4 delivery.
At the end of the shift you made all 4 of your P&Ds, (pickups & deliveries) you have only driven 150 miles, My hourly base pay was $20.00 + 15% night differential making my hourly pay $23.00 for 8 hours + 4 hours overtime at $34.50 nightly and again home every night.

I worked for a company and a management team I really liked. It was my “starting point”, but they weren’t the top pay in town. Next in line in this sector paid $34.50 to $39.50 per hour.
