Which Should I Choose?

Rollga Genesis is significantly softer than the Rollga Pro. The big question becomes, which Rollga is right for me? Rollga Genesis is for tender muscles, it is effective in treating conditions and areas alongside bones such as: Shin Splints, Plantar Fasciitis, the neck and Erector Spinea Muscle along your spine. Rollga Pro is very dynamic when treating larger muscle groups such as the Calves, Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Glutes, and the Performis. Rollga Pro delivers a very deep tissue sports massage.

[]

Guaranteed the most effective and comfortable foam roller you will ever own! This foam roller has a unique patented design that cradles your body for quick results with more comfort and ease. Rollga bypasses the bone structure, such as the spine, shins and hips, to unlock hard to access trigger points. Rollga also allows for muscle displacement to ensure the muscle fibers are guided and protected from the damaging shift and pressure. At 18 inches, Rollga is big enough to treat your whole body and small enough to fit in your backpack.

While traditional muscle therapy rollers are very uncomfortable. They hurt from pinching, they leave ugly bruises and they force users to flex their bodies into undesirable positions in order to use them. On the back, foam rollers do not reach deep enough, so traditionally we had to turn the roller vertical and rock side-to-side. But muscle fibers run vertically, and users need to roll through trigger points, not rock on them.

FAQ - HOW ROLLGA WORKS

Why does Rollga have curves and what are they for?

It’s not so much what the curves do. It is more what the curves DO NOT do. Rollga protects your nerves and comfortably guides your muscles through the roller. Your nerves and tissues do not pinch on the roller. Ordinary flat foam rollers pinch nerves and tissues between the roller and your body causing a very uncomfortable experience.

Our bodies are round, so should a foam roller. Rollga forms to your body and massages muscles at a 45 degree angle, pulling and stretching the tissues for a more therapeutic and relaxing experience (connective therapy). Ordinary rollers attack your muscles and tender areas at a 90 degree straight on approach. This aggressive angle can be quite painful at times.

Rollga’s curves avoid bone structures such as the Tibia in the shins, the spine, shoulder blades and hips. By avoiding such solid structures Rollga can unlock the deepest knots in your muscles.

Rollga guarantees comfort with this shape, or we refund your investment.

Is Rollga meant for exercise or medical purposes?

Rollga has it’s place in both the medical field as well as the fitness industry, and is sought after equally by both medical professionals and fitness specialists.

Rollga as a Medical Tool: physical therapists, physicians, and chiropractors refer to the Rollga for specific therapeutic treatments and as a solution to many range of motion related problems. Rollga targets the problem areas without pinching nerve tissues. This prevents causing further damage.

Rollga as a Exercise Product: Rollga can be used as a recovery tool after exercise. It can also be used to increase performance by increasing flexibility and range of motion in the joints. Rolling can aide in bringing a burst of oxygen to all areas of the body within each muscle fiber. Rollga can be used as a stability tool during workouts.

The versatility is vast with Rollga. [Get the most versatile foam roller on the market now].

Ordinary foam rollers hurt, does Rollga hurt?

Rollga is significantly more comfortable and effective.

It’s not so much what Rollga does, it is more about what it does not do. Rollga does not pinch nerve tissue or pinch muscle tissue between your bones. With the patent pending contours of Rollga. Your muscles will move freely across the Rollga Roller. Unlike ordinary flat foam rollers where you feel popping and crunching from a limited left and right motion of tissue displacement, Rollga provides relief as your tissues are given room to displace across the roller left and right AS WELL as up and down.

With harder Rollga Rollers you will still have to be in full control of the pressure applied.

Gauging the Pain

Muscle knots hurt when they are compressed, and you may be reluctant to roll on them for fear of doing yourself harm or making your pain worse. But you have to realize that therapeutic pain created by massage with a Rollga is beneficial. (Pain should not be a fiery burn, this type of pain is caused by pinching nerves.) The electrical impulses of moderate amounts of self-inflicted pain are therapeutic in that they disrupt the neurological feedback loop that maintains the muscle knots. Do not worry though because the self-administered pain is usually self-limiting. Your natural defense mechanisms won’t allow you to inflict more pain on yourself than you can stand. It is very unlikely to do real harm because with a Rollga for Connective Therapy and Myotherapy, you are in charge of how much pressure to allow just enough to make it “hurt good”. It should be a pleasant kind of pain. Another positive effect of pain from massage is that it immediately brings a flood of painkilling endorphin. For this reason, you’ll find that the more times you work on yourself, the more pressure you will be able to use. If you have a really bad knot that you absolutely hate to work on, try giving it a good shot, then back off and wait ten seconds before going on. This gives the endorphin time to kick in and deaden your sensitivity.

Can I use Rollga if I do not have core strength?

Yes.

If you do not have the core strength to lie down on the floor, you can also use the wall or a chair.

Can a Rollga Connective Therapy Foam Roller do everything that an ordinary foam roller can do?

Yes.

Do Rollga Rollers break down? When will I need a new one?

This is the strongest foam roller you will ever own. But the answer is, eventually.

Rollga is manufactured with the highest quality of EPP Foam materials and is cured with a proprietary heat treatment that compresses and seals the surface of the Rollga roller. This treatment ensures your roller will last a very long time. The treatment nearly eliminates the pores which creates a protection against unwanted bacteria growing in your Rollga Roller. The integrity of the foam will remain stronger when it is not fighting such growth. Rollga also has a solid foam core, so you will not have to worry about crushing your Rollga or foam peeling off.

When will you get a new Rollga?
When your friends, kids, or spouse steals your Rollga! (You may need to hide it.) When your muscles recover and tender spots subside and you decide you want a harder Rollga. (You may need an upgrade.) When your cat uses it as a scratching post. (You may need to put it up high.) When you realize you should have one at your desk and one at your home. (You may need a duplicate.) When you want to give the best gift to your friends or co-workers! (You may need to give a gift.)
Will it break when we drive over it with a 5,700 pound Jeep Rubicon?

How do I take care of my Rollga Roller?

Care / Cleaning & Other Recommendations
Please allow a few weeks for your Rollga roller to ‘break in’ fully. They do soften. After each use, wipe down your Rollga roller with a cloth or an anti-bacterial wipe. If you use your Rollga roller with oils or body lotions, be sure to wash your roller after each use. Because Rollga is made with 100% EPP foam and treated and sealed, your roller is water resistant and can be fully submerged in water. Do not put Rollga rollers in dishwashers, wash machines, or dryers. Do not use harsh chemical cleaners, for this may cause damage to the foam. Be sure to store your Rollga Roller in a safe area. If it is smashed during storage time, the foam will retain memory and damage your roller.Such damage is not covered by Rollga’s warranty. Our warranty does not cover damage caused by improper storage or from pets and rodents.

FAQ – GENERAL FOAM ROLLING

Where did foam rolling originate from?

Foam rolling is a relatively new treatment. It originated in the late 1980’s, when foam rollers were used for body supports and standing balance work. Broadway dancers were among the first to explore the benefits of foam rolling as a tool for self massage. Foam rolling became more widely used in fascia therapy by 2009, where a foam roller is the key tool used.

By 2009, foam rollers were not only found in the clinic setting, but also grew popular in the home as several major retailers began carrying such products.

Misinformation: Why the confusion?

What slowed down the foam rolling craze of the new millennium? YouTube and the internet. If you want to know how to use a foam roller on your low back, simply Google it and you will find hundreds of videos with credible looking people teaching you how to use a foam roller on your low back. However, we should never use a foam roller to roll our low back! I cover this later in the FAQ’s. The internet misinformed many people and soon the general public lost interest in the foam roller because they didn’t know how to use it and it hurt.

What is Myotherapy?

Maybe you are one of the many people are wondering today, “Do I actually need this Rollga thing or is it just a fad?” or, “ I don’t think I need therapy, why get this thing?” or, “I think I know someone who could benefit, but is this legitimate? Like, is it scientifically proven to help with muscle pain?” or, “How is this roller different from any other foam roller?” All of these questions are important and have to do with a real need many of us have because of something called a trigger point. No, not a brand you may have heard of, or a pressure point, or energy channel, but an actual medical reality most adults are experiencing in one form or another at this very moment. We too often we accept standard background pain and we are often told all we can do is treat the chronic pain with medicine. Too often we settle with these very specific areas of tenderness or intense irritability and when a physician cannot pinpoint the problem we just call it “aging”. But what if you have wondered, as we did at Rollga, could we actually have relief and control again? What if our body could again return to pain-free living? These obstacles, namely trigger points, often restrict us, and it is Rollga’s mission to educate and offer hope that a freer, active lifestyle can be possible. Trigger points are characterized by soreness, stiffness, and are often painful, restricting full range of motion. A trigger point originates within the connective tissue of muscle, where a fibrous web called fascia functions to support and connect networks of body structures. Applying pressure in a specific way that can reach the innermost layers of fascia allows trigger points to release. Myofascial trigger point therapy (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective tissue) is a technique that involves applying pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction to other parts of the body. [1]

Trigger points are more common than we give them credit for. They are thought to result from a variety of causes, including poor posture, skeletal asymmetry, traumatic injuries, overexertion, birth trauma, hypoglycemia, vitamin B6 deficiency, and food allergies. During times of physical or emotional stress, the points induced by stress cause the muscles to spasm. [1] Locations on the body with past scarring may also become the origin of a trigger point. Scar tissue that doesn’t behave like muscle tissue can become problematic, hampering range of motion, because proper circulation to repair the tissue is blocked. Over time with Rollga for Myotherapy, trigger points can diminish as the muscle fibers are encouraged to return to their appropriate form. Eventually any scar tissue will dissipate also as the muscle fibers are working again like the muscles and tendons it is adjacent to.[2] Myotherapy has previously only been referred to as a therapy that takes place with a specialist, skilled in myofascial release of trigger points until now. Not only is myotherapy a rare practice, but it can also be costly. Fortunately, with a new foam roller design that actually acknowledges how to release a trigger point proplerly, with Rollga for Myotherapy releasing your own trigger points may be more accessible than you would have thought possible!

Designed for self-treatment, Rollga is the only foam roller product available that can target hard to reach trigger points further in the fascia. Regular foam rollers are cylindrical, and are simply too flat to work out a trigger point. Think about getting a massage for a moment. Would a massage therapist work out trigger points with only a rolling pin? Of course not! Perhaps if there was a trigger point very easy to access near the surface at best, but what does an effective massage therapist do? To reach connective tissue, a massage therapist must apply firm, direct pressure at an oblique angle, allowing the fascia that can be stuck together to gently break apart as the trigger point is compressed and lifted loose. Rollga Connective Therapy has been engineered to follow this principle for self-treatment of trigger points within the connective tissue. The design allows its curves to bypass bone structure to allow deeper myofascial release. Also, because muscle connective tissue is interconnecting, often times releasing a trigger point in one area will alleviate an entire region of the body that was previously overwhelmed by muscle soreness or stiffness.

This sounds to good to be true, right? Is this scientific or science-fiction? Even though there are skeptical physicians of the reality of trigger points due to a lack of research-based material on the subject, the reality of trigger points have gained some ground. Western physicians often gravitate toward X-ray use to detect issues, but since trigger points are soft tissue, they will not be seen on an X-ray. There has been some embrace from the medical community though when Dr. Travell discovered in 1957 the science-based reality of trigger points when she found they produce electricity. She identified and measured trigger points quantifiably though electromyographic instruments. On the contrary, she found that muscle tissue not in a state of contraction are electrically silent. She also found that when she located a trigger point, adding pressure increases electricity. Also, if a trigger point is near the surface, it can be detected as warmer than the surrounding tissue. The temperature difference from increased metabolic activity has been found to be measureable.[3] A trigger point can also sometimes be very noticeable if a great number of tissue fibers are stuck together, with adhesions producing a state of hardness within the fascia. They are not always in a hard state, but when they are, some people describe the feeling under the surface like a dried up pea or noodle. The most reliable criterion for us without medical instruments for detecting a trigger point is its extreme tenderness. Just seek the spot that hurts the most when you press on it. Obviously many medical conditions cause tenderness in muscles and soft tissue. If you are in doubt, check with a physician, preferably one who is informed about trigger points and myofascial pain.

Muscle pain is no respecter of persons, as it affects all walks of life, from athletes, to musicians, stay-at-home parents, and people in all occupations who are prone to muscle soreness from repetitive movements.  The good news is that there can be relief with myofascial release of trigger points. Myotherapy asserts that firm pressure on a trigger point is enough to prompt muscle relaxation. Releasing trigger points coupled with exercises to encourage and retrain muscle behaviors will also improve mobility. Trigger-point pressure, plus exercise to correct muscle trauma, can alleviate 95% of muscular pain.[1] Additional benefits of myofascial release include improved circulation, strength, stamina, flexibility, and coordination as well as enhanced sleep, energy, and sports performance.[1] So now that your questions are answered you see that you finally may have the solution you have been waiting for to control your pain, what are you waiting for? Feel relief for yourself and roll ahead with life. Try Rollga for Myotherapy today and feel the difference!

What is fascia?

Fascia is extends from the top of our head to the bottoms of our toes. It is the tissue that holds all of our organs, bones, veins, tendons, etc in place. Think of it as the plastic wrap that holds your sandwich together.

Fascia under a microscope looks like this:

What is the relationship between a Rollga foam roller and our fascia?

Rollga is used to loosen tight fascia in our body. When we loosen fascia, we increase our range of motion and we reduce the interference in our nerves ability to communicate.

Have you ever tried peeling a tough batch of oranges that had a thick white fascia layer under the peel. It was difficult. Here is a tip to make it easier the next time you get a stubborn batch of oranges. Place the orange under your palm on the counter. Apply pressure and roll it around. Boom, your orange will be easier to peel. Why? because we broke up the fascia layer under the surface of the peel. A similar process happens when we use a foam roller. We looses that tough and thick fascia in our body, and by doing so, we increase our range of motion in our joints.

Who can benefit from foam rolling?

All ages 15+ can benefit from foam rolling

Male or Female

If you currently have pain or if you do not have pain

Athletes and non-athletes

Are Rollga Rollers only for athletes?

No.

According to studies done by PubMed.gov, “Foam rolling appears to have a range of potentially valuable effects for both athletes and the general population, including increasing flexibility and enhancing recovery.”

Rollga is for everyone. If you have muscles, you will experience great benefits from this product.

Should I roll before or after exercise?

Two Part Answer.

If you are using Rollga as a dynamic warm-up tool: Roll very fast and for less than 30-seconds per muscle group. This will simply get blood flowing and this will supply a burst of oxygen to your cells. It is not recommended to aggressively use a Rollga roller prior to exercise. If you are too loose, you may experience cramping or weakness in strength.

Rollga’s as a muscle recovery tool is meant for after exercise and heavy activity. According to a recent PubMed Study, “foam rolling, as a recovery tool, substantially reduces muscle soreness caused by activity.” and additional PubMed Study went on to prove that “foam rolling substantially increases range of motion without a decrease of muscle activation or force.”

Rollga is meant to be used AFTER activity, but has it’s place during a warm-up.

Can I roll my low back with a Rollga Roller?

Some professionals say, “yes.” HOWEVER, at Rollga we believe in avoid rolling the low back.

There are routines to provide relief for low back pain. Watch this YouTube video on [how to use Rollga Foam Rollers for low back pain].

Here is what to do with a Rollga Foam Roller for Low Back Pain Relief:
Start by rolling the Glutes and Piriformis Muscles: This alone may be the source of your radiant low back pain. Perform a Rollga Bridge: Lie on your back and place your tailbone in zone 3 (Outside Cradle) and the ball of the Rollga will rest on your spine. Relax and melt into the end of the Rollga. You can slowly rock for additional therapeutic benefits. Finally, compress the Psoas Muscle: Place the end (Ball) of the Rollga between your belly button and hip. Then lie face down on the floor on top of the Rollga Roller. Relax down into the Rollga and when you feel like you need to poop, you are on the Psoas.
Again, [watch the video for better visual description].

Why shouldn’t we roll the low back?

In the low back there is a muscle that attaches to the spine called the Psoas. The job of the Psoas is to “protect the alignment” of the spine. If it senses trauma or aggression, say from your roller, it may want to tense up. This is a response to protect your alignment. We can avoid causing such irritation by sneaking in from the front and compressing the Psoas or stretching it by pressing it down and into the hips.

Will I look silly using a foam roller?

Yes.

Ha ha, though some foam rolling positions are a bit unusual, and we may think everyone is watching… They are thinking the same thing about how they are running on the treadmill. Who cares what others think… This is about how you will feel!

In a positive way.

If you pull out a Rollga, and people around you begin talking, it’s only because they have never seen such an amazing foam roller! Envy will fill their face and they will be wishing they had one!

[Look silly and pick up positive attention: Buy your Rollga Roller Now!]

Why should I use a Rollga roller?

If you lived with a massage therapist, and you could have a very targeted and specific massage everyday, would you go?

Of course you would. The Rollga Connective Therapy Foam Roller is a wonderful tool used for self massage. Rollga increases range of motion and flexibility. It supports healthy blood flow and returns much needed oxygen, hydration and nutrients to our muscles and cells. Rollga avoids bone structures, cradles muscles, and avoids pinching nerves. Rollga is the most effective and comfortable foam roller available.

Can I roll too much? How long should I roll?

Potentially. But not usually for the everyday average rolling client.

The goal is always to start easy and work your way into a rolling routine and hydrate after every Rollga session. Start by rolling for 30 seconds in a given session. Then progress the next session to 1 minute, and so on… You will build up to just a few minutes per day. As you roll, you may notice some tender areas.

Use Caution:
The Piriformis Muscle may be prone to tensing up if it is over stimulated.
The IT (Iliotibial) Band may also be over stimulated. If you are not having problems in this area, avoid rolling it.

Avoid: Low back and Recent Injuries
You should avoid rolling your low back. The Psoas Muscle has a tendency to tense up if it gets irritated. This is a response to the role of the Psoas’ job to protect the alignment of the spine. See FAQ, “Can I roll my low back?” for more details or watch this [YouTube Low Back Routine video].

If an injury is swollen or bruised avoid rolling that area aggressively or even at all. Some injuries will benefit greatly from foam rolling techniques, but you should check with your physical therapist in regards to your specific injury first.

Disclaimer: Before doing anything for the first time, consult with your physician or a medical professional.

FAQ - DETAILS ABOUT ROLLGA

How did you come up with the Rollga name?

In Samoa, the suffix -ga is used to make a verb into a noun with a related meaning. We wanted to take the verb rolling and convert it to be a noun. Hence, Rollga. Coincidentally, there is an internet slang word “GA,” which translates as “Go Ahead.” In other words Rollga means, “Roll, Go Ahead!”

There are some immersed little circles on each Rollga. Does they serve some kind of purpose?

No.

It is just part of the foaming process. It allows the air to vent out of the mold.
Usually these hole are all over ordinary foam rollers. We have patterned these vent holes to add to the visual appeal of the Rollga Roller. It is solely a design element on the surface of the Rollga and may provide some traction to it as well.
