While my friend was having the time of his life in the middle of his own party, with some random hot girl, in his bedroom…
One of his main girlfriends at the time came up to me, with a combination of frustrated and sad, and said,
“Your friend is SUCH a Player.”
It was that magical phase that blinded me for years to come. In fact I was so blinded that I could not see the context of what was RIGHT in front of my eyes. When I heard this phrase my thought process went something like this:
“If she is calling him a ‘player’ in a negative way.. then ‘player’ must = ‘a**hole’ which must not be good.”
It was from that moment on that I took the PERMISSION away from myself to be the kind of guy who got the girls, and who was magnetic to all people around him.
I had the DESIRE to be this kind of Magnetic person, and I sure as hell knew what it looked like..
But when I heard that magical phrase, my Permission to myself was instantly revoked.
From that moment on, I consciously chose to be the “nice guy” because I thought, “that must be what women really want…”
The guy who would treat her right..
Heck, The “nice guy” always wins in the movies right?..
I could not have been more WRONG.
Now, let’s fast-forward a few years…
I was a sophomore in college, still a virgin, but I had finally found a girl that would date me.
She was cute, she liked my personality.. I sure as hell liked hers.
I thought, “This girl is the one.”
Dude.. I trust you, so promise not to laugh at me when I tell you this…
I was thinking ALL of this, not even a year into dating her, and I had only made out with her once…
In my head, I thought I was being the “romantic” guy, and we were going to end up a happy, under-sexed couple, just like Cory and Topanga…
HA!
We texted every day..
I always gave her a “goodnight beautiful ” text..
You know, just like the “nice guy” that I was..
But ONE day those texts stop getting replied to…
I freaked.
“What did I do wrong?!”
My heart dropped.
My head spun.
I EVEN wrote her a “love” letter and delivered it by hand to her mailbox.
Dude, I dropped off the deep end.
It was not too long after this incident that I learned one of the most UNEQUIVOCAL truths of mankind:
The less you try, the ‘cooler’ you are.
One of the classic lessons that the great Fonz taught us.
Now it was easy for me, at this time, to “not try” around any other women, because the only thing I wanted at the time was my girl back.
So in a heartbroken daze my roommates, at the time, took me to a party.
Being a college party, there were obviously plenty of women to choose from, but I could not have cared less.
Until the girl walked in..
The girl who I would FINALLY lose my virginity to.
We had a class together, and for whatever reason she had taken a liking to me when she heard me drop the F-bomb earlier that day in class.
Which btw was WAY out of character for me at the time.
Don’t get me wrong, I cuss all the F*****g time, but to cuss in front of any girl I was attracted to was for me.. Taboo.
Keep in mind, I believed in the fallacy of being a “nice guy.”
I was SO wrapped up in being a “nice guy” JUST because of that one magical phrase I had heard that one night while in high school..
..That I would purposefully censor myself around the women I liked.
So when I saw the girl later that day at the party, she didn’t know about this “nice guy” façade that I had put over my personality.
And when I truly didn’t care about attaining her, because of my umm.. recent lady struggles.
She was drawn to me like white on rice.
Not too long after this I found out that the REAL reason my ex had gone cold on me was due to a new guy she was seeing…
A short, roided out, Arnold Schwarzenegger wanna-be.
She was obsessed with this guy…
Dude, I got so needy that for me, the next step was simple..
Get her attention at all costs.
I ended up doing this by starting to date a girl who she HATED.
BUT because I:
Never became a better person.. Was desperate for 1 persons’ attention..
And
Still withheld the Permission from myself to be the kind of guy who was naturally magnetic.
History was doomed to repeat itself…
Let me just say, it did...
And now those 2 girls are “bffs”
Lol.
So what is the moral of this story?
What can you get out of this wonderful, yet chilling story of a man who had no direction, and got his heart broken twice?
