The swing trade newsletter service provides both long and short set-ups on stocks and ETFs with a trading time period of several days to several weeks. Three to four swing set-ups are provided weekly with a wide range of equity prices and expected trade velocity. Entry levels, stops, and multiple targets to add or protect profits, along with the reasoning behind the picks are given. All picks provide at least a 3:1 reward to risk ratio based on entry, second or third target, and the stop. The stocks and ETFs picked have good liquidity based on average daily dollar volume. If a low liquidity set-up is overwhelmingly compelling, it is noted appropriately. The set-ups are selected from a multitude of technical analysis based scans including large block transactions, consolidations, low volume pull backs after big runs, and oversold and overbought conditions. Factors considered in the selections include short interest, recent news events, upcoming earnings releases, moving averages, both daily and weekly trend lines and moving averages, gaps, and channels.
PowerTrader Alan has been trading full-time since 2007, and provided a swing trade newsletter from 2010 through 2013 through another now defunct organization. His swing picks that triggered have winners averaging 4.3% with an average loser of 1.45% for an overall average winning percentage of 2.4%.
[SAMPLE Swing Newsletter]
Subject: 11May15 Picks
This market continues to be a tough swing market. I don’t see a clear trend while looking at the SPY, IWM, and the QQQ. I see chop. I’m looking through lots of charts to find what I consider mediocre set-ups. Having said that, here’s this week’s picks.
FBR long – Nice uptrend with higher highs and higher lows. A price pivot up after a recent pullback to the 50 day simple moving average, a pullback to the lower uptrending channel line, and an oversold condition on the stochastics (12,3). FBR is a Brazilian based company that engages in the production, sale, and export of short fiber pulp. The company primarily offers bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp used in the manufacture of toilet paper; uncoated and coated paper for printing and writing; and coated cardboard for packaging.
Entry – as close to $14.00 as possible
Stop – $13.75
Targets – $14.24, $14.4, $14.68, $14.92
AMAT long – Applied Materials is down about 20% this year. It appears to have put in a double bottom on the weekly chart and after being oversold, closed right at its 8 day exponential moving average. Looking for a rally into earnings on May 14 AMC.
Entry: $19.90
Stop: $19.70
Targets: $20.11, $20.47, $21.34
F short – Ford double topped back in March and can’t punch through the 21 day exponential moving average. It has a sweet trendline down and is bouncing off that 21 day ema and the upper channel line of the downtrend.
Entry: $15.59
Stop: $15.83
Targets: $15.41, $15.10, $14.74
CPSI short – CPSI came to the top channel of a downtrend line while filling a gap from the end of January. I also like the pivot off the 100 daily simple moving average. Earnings were Apr 30th so I’m not too worried about the 15 days of shorts. This stock trades low volume so be careful on position size. Computer Programs and Systems, Inc. provides healthcare information technology solutions for rural and community hospitals in the United States. The company’s integrated enterprise-wide system automates clinical and financial data management in the functional areas of a hospital.
Entry: $54.46
Stop: $55.18
Targets: $53.85, $53.28, $51.69, $48.01

Subject: A couple of real time short picks
Still working on some long picks for the week.
NVDA short: a large volume down day on the 8th of May followed by a low volume up move to the 8 ema and the
100 sma on the daily. Nice pivot down in an up market. In addition a large block sold at $21.27 on May 18th.
Entry $21.12
Stop $21.28
Targets $20.96, $20.82, $20.63, $20.48, $20.38
UNG short (DGAZ long) below $14.68. Extremely overbought
with a bearish engulfing candle with volume forming on the daily.

Stop $14.81
Targets $14.47, $14.34, !4.15, $14.00

[SAMPLE Long Picks]
Subject: Long picks
BMS long – breaking out of consolidation on the weekly chart and taking out the big candle of their earnings announcement of Apr 23, 2015.
The weekly is also a nice chart with a pullback to and a pivot up off the 21 ema.
Entry $47.21
Stop $46.96
Targets $47.76, $48.31, $48.60, $48.77
MFC long: nice uptrend with a pull back to and a pivot up off the
21 day ema and the 200 day sma.
Entry $18.84
Stop $18.71
Targets $19.04, $19.24, $19.33, $19.47
EXAS long – might have missed this so I won’t chase but wait for a pullback to the $24.88 area. Love the pivot off the 21 day ema and the 200 day sma areas. Looks to be coming out of consolidation and above all major moving averages on the daily chart.
Entry $24.88
Stop $24.25
Targets $25.54, $26.00, $26.36, $27.13
