These instructions for a children’s wooden play house on stilts are extremely unique in terms of their detail and precision. The beautiful construction can be painted in various colors and looks like a typical Swedish house. The children´s wooden play house has already been built successfully many times and is proving a huge hit with young children everywhere.
In order to prevent misunderstandings, we should first emphasize the fact that you are only purchasing the assembly instructions for the play house and not the actual house itself!
Furthermore, these extensive instructions describe the construction of the wooden stilt house shown in the pictures with the short stilts, like the blue house shown. The additional pictures in the gallery of the house with longer stilts are variations of the described play house with children’s slide, sandpit and ladder. These pictures have been provided by customers who have purchased the construction manual for the play house and who have modified the house to their own specifications. These images are for illustration purposes only. The attached wood and cutting list refers to the stilt house with the short stilts!
The 40-page instruction manual for the wooden play house for children was developed and optimized over a lengthy period by a qualified civil engineer, is protected by copyright and not available in this form for general purchase.
The assembly instructions are delivered as a PDF file to download.
With clear, explanatory texts, numerous images and diagrams, the instructions for the outdoor wooden play house document almost every step required for successful construction (see further instruction excerpts below). So even DIY amateurs will be able to build the children´s wooden play house with ease. The instruction manual also includes detailed cutting instructions and a list of parts and their measurements. Simply take these instructions to your nearest specialist wood stockists or DIY store and have the wood cut accordingly.
Below you will find a more detailed description of the stilt house, followed by more in-depth information regarding the materials and steps required to assemble it.

Description:
The wooden kids playhouse consists of squared timbers, flat boards as well as grooved and tongued boards, all made of spruce wood. This play house is designed in the same way as the large prefabricated walls of wooden houses and is therefore exceptionally sturdy and durable. Additional stability is provided by the fact that all connections are screwed (with wood screws). Most comparable ready-made industrial products, on the other hand, merely use tacked boards which is why such wooden houses begin losing stability within 1-2 years.
This small wooden house is built on struts to avoid any unpleasant little creatures making their way inside. Bituminous sheeting or roofing felt attached with roof nails is used to seal the roof.
[]
The kids playhouse on stilts has been thoroughly planned down to the very last detail. Its interior can be furnished according to your individual wishes. For example, a fold-away bench seat with magnetic holders attached to the legs can be installed. If it is folded away, a small child’s chair can be placed in front of the little table.
The latticed windows on both sides each measure 45 cm². To equip the house for the winter months, a Perspex pane can be affixed with a U-shaped hook in order to provide protection from the cold weather. It can be removed during the summer.
[]
The table can also be folded away against the wooden wall according to the same principle. Thanks to the beam construction (reinforcing squared timber) it is possible to put up shelving on the walls, for storing toy kitchen utensils for example. At night the house can be illuminated with a battery-run lamp, which, in combination with the light wood provides a warm and pleasant lighting effect.
Two small chairs can easily be placed on the veranda, which has a width of 70 cm. The double-leafed door has a height of 1.10 cm. The whole door can be completely bolted from the outside. From the inside, however, it is only possible to open the upper half of the door, like an additional window.
In case you have to dismantle the kids playhouse plans (if you are moving house or wish to sell it), it can be reduced down to its basic supporting elements (four side walls, two balustrade elements, one base construction, one veranda supporting construction as a frame and tongue and groove boards for the roof).

Material requirements for the assembly:
The items shown inside the children’s wooden play house in the photos (bench, shelves, table, chairs etc.) are not included in the material requirements list and their installation is not part of the assembly instructions either.
The following material quantities are required:
1) Wood (the most cost-effective, and the type we also used, is spruce):
The wood can be bought from every DIY store or specialist wood stockists, or from every roofing company supplier, which is usually cheaper. It must be pointed out that the wood dimensions can vary slightly, depending on regions. Even the big DIY stores do not have a standard norm measurement, as they have different suppliers from different regions. With a little technical skill and talent, however, it is still possible to perfectly assemble the play house with slightly varying wood, which will have a minimal effect on its final dimensions, or the way it is assembled. In our case, all of the timber used has been planed.
Part of the assembly instructions for the children’s play house is a list of timbers with indicated lengths. All you have to do is hand this to the wood dealer and they will cut the wood to the measurements provided. The following timber is required:
approx. 38 m of squared timbers measuring 27×45 mm approx. 7 m of squared timbers measuring 75×75 mm approx. 12 m of squared timbers measuring 46×95 mm approx. 35 m smooth-edged boards measuring 18×100 mm approx. 1.5 m smooth-edged boards measuring 18×20 mm approx. 12 m² of tongued and grooved boards measuring 19×146 mm (of which 1 cm is of tongued) approx. 10 m of squared timbers measuring 20×48 mm approx. 1.8 m of squared timbers measuring 40×40 mm approx. 4 m smooth-edged boards measuring 18×52 mm approx. 68 m smooth-edged boards measuring 18×70 mm
The corresponding saw work must be carried out on the wood (cut to length, corner cuts, notches, curves and surface cut-outs). The tools you will need are: a jigsaw, a circular saw, a hammer, a wood chisel and a yardstick.
2) Bonding:
Bonding materials can be purchased from every DIY store or specialist wood stockists, or directly from a screw dealer, which is usually cheaper.
approx. 100 Spax/wooden drilling screws 3.0 x 20 (TX10) approx. 650 Spax/wooden drilling screws 3.0 x 35 (TX10) approx. 150 Spax/wooden drilling screws 3.5 x 45 (TX15) approx. 47 Spax/wooden drilling screws 4.5 x 70 (TX25)
The use of Torx screw heads is recommended with the Spax/wooden drilling screws. You will also need:
3 Torx screw heads for a battery-powered drill in the sizes TX10, TX15 and TX25 9 corner screws (side length 25 mm) 3 locking bolts with accompanying fixing (length approx. 80 mm) 4 steel hinges (length approx. 135 mm)
[]
A battery-powered drill is recommended for the screwing.
3) Paint:
Paint can be purchased from every DIY store or specialist wood stockists.
Wood paint for the outside of the play house (side walls and porch railings): 0.75 l for approx. 12 m² with two coats.
Wood paint for the outside of the play house (smooth-edged boards and posts): 0.75 l for approx. 12 m² with two coats.
4) Roofing materials:
Roofing felt or bituminous sheeting (V60 S4, talcum-powdered) is used to seal the roof (available from DIY stores for approx. 7-8 Euros). If your child is likely to want to climb on the roof, we recommend you purchase thicker bituminous sheeting, as roofing felt can potentially develop tears. One roll measures 1 m by 5 m and covers 5 m² of roof surface. The remaining approx. 34 cm wide uncovered area on the gable must therefore be covered separately with another roof sheet (length approx. 2.40 m); for this we recommend a flexible damp-proof sheet (sanded, 500) for waterproofing, with a width of 36.5 cm (available from DIY stores for approx. 6-7 Euros). To affix the sheets approx. 150 pieces of copper roofing tacks measuring 2.5 x 20 mm are recommended.

Assembly manual for the kids playhouse plans:
[]
The assembly instructions for the kids playhouse firstly deal with the required tools and materials (fasteners and woods), including their preparation (cuts etc.). For this purpose, an accompanying item list with sketches for the cut-outs explains which woods need to be cut to which sizes. The list also shows where the individual wood parts need to be joined together.
The timber should be arranged in different material groups, which are clearly defined in the instructions, and upon which the entire assembly is based.
The actual assembly of the children’s play house is divided into nine steps. Each step is easy to follow. With the help of numerous pictures and plans, all of these steps are simply illustrated to ensure a hassle-free assembly. The plan sections contain references to the different woods listed in the material list (identified by numbers).
The nine steps are broken down as follows:
Assembly of the base structure including the bases of the house and veranda p.11-14 Assembly of the side walls p.14-17 Assembly of the front gable wall (with front door) p.17-19 Assembly of the rear gable wall p.20-21-Paintwork p.21-22 Assembly of the walls and construction of the veranda supporting structure p.22-25 Completion of roof covering p.25-26 Completion of roof facings, corner coating, windows and doorframes p.27-30 Completion and installation of the door wings (incl. paintwork) p.31-34 Completion of the veranda railing p.35-39
