I knew something had to change. I needed an answer to calm the “chaos” that was my life. I thought about seeing a therapist but had no insurance and wasn’t making a lot of money, so that wasn’t an option.

I had been doing some reading and heard that meditation could dramatically “take the edge off” and might help me see the forest for the trees…that it could bring me peace of mind, greater clarity of thought, more energy, increased productivity, and infuse harmony into my relationships. So I dove in. However, at that time, I was lead to believe that meditation meant sitting perfectly still with the mind totally quiet for 20, 30 or even 60 minutes at a time like a Zen Monk. To me that just seemed like hard work…like another job of sorts, just one more thing to add to the to-do list. But I needed help, lots of help, so I forged ahead.

Initially I would only do it only sporadically…a couple/few times a week. Thankfully the results from these every-so-often sittings were powerful enough that I stuck with it. Almost immediately I felt more centered and at ease…it gave me the ability to wrap my head around what needed to be done to begin to heal.

The information I was studying was telling me that for every 1 hour of reading I did, I should be doing 2 hours of meditation. Being a perfectionist, I would try to do just that. It was hard to maintain for sure.

But I did it for about 5 years. For the first time in my life, I was starting to feel peace of mind from the my practice, but sadly, at the same time, if I wasn’t able to do it just right, I would feel like a failure.

This lengthly approach to meditation seemed like it would be maintainable if I was living off the grid and not trying to be a valuable contributing participant in life. But I didn’t want to do that.

I don’t know about you, but that kind of commitment is hard to fit into anyone’s schedule while still being a vital part of society with a 45-60 hr/wk job, friends and/or family.

So something inside me told me to keep searching.

So I went looking at programs online and found some that were supposed to be very helpful but to learn the techniques it would cost a couple thousand dollars. What? I didn’t have it at that time. And truthfully charging that much just didn’t seem fair or right to me…and it still doesn’t today.
