I Wasn't Always the “Real Estate Professor”

I always knew that real estate could be gold mine, but between all the various types of real estate investing I was overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. I considered rehabbing a few properties and quickly realized that between a lack of capital and knowledge I would end up even further in debt so I remained confused and didn’t know what else to do. I felt like a loser because I saw some of my friends living their dream lives while I stared out the window of my dreary cubicle. I knew that I deserved more, that I was capable of more, but I didn’t know how to actually DO IT! I was stuck and it seemed like there was no way out.
I thought that if I just didn’t think about how miserable I was every day, my misery would just go away… I was so wrong!
Even when I finally accepted how unhappy I was, I had NO IDEA what to do… I felt totally stuck. I was living paycheck-to-paycheck, just barely getting by and cover my bills, but could never get ahead and do the things in life that I really wanted to do. I ended up becoming a total jerk to many of my friends because I was so miserable, which pushed them away and made me feel even more alone… and miserable! My initial failures to be a real estate investor were because I tried to do it all on my own, without any help… a huge mistake! I knew deep down that to truly make it in the business of real estate I would be a mentor… which scared the living daylights out of me because I knew he would actually make me work!
One Day a Simple Email Changed My Life
But then one day a miracle happened in my life. I was home one weekend reading my emails when one in particular jumped off the screen. The title read something like “Real Estate Investor Seeks Apprentice” I quickly opened up the email and scanned down through it. As it turned out, a local mentor was looking for an apprentice to work in his local market… right in my hometown! I was thrilled; finally here was the opportunity that I had been looking for all along. Here was the chance to work with an established, experienced and successful investor hand-in-hand to grow my real estate business. Where did I sign!?! For the first time in my life, I took action. I filled out the application, wrote an additional email back to the mentor and crossed my fingers. For the next few days I couldn’t sleep, it was all I could think about whether or not this mentor would choose me. Then, sure enough, the phone call came. It was the mentor and he had good news for me, he had decided that he wanted to work with me! I still remember to this day exactly where I was when I got that life-changing phone call and more importantly how I felt! I knew that from that moment on my life would change and sure enough, it did! I because a student of his and soon learned the art of flipping houses from an experienced expert. And, in LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, I quit my job and was flipping houses working from the comfort of my own home. I’ve never had a J-O-B since then and have truly found my calling. As my friends and colleagues started seeing the success that I was having, they naturally asked me for guidance.
