The “Proof of Concept” Stage
After the initial stage of development, my team and I needed to produce for ourselves a “proof of concept”. A hard, solid proof that the idea behind the Triple B actually works, actually makes money in all types of market.
For this proof-of-concept, we built a robot that trades the basic rules of the strategy, without the human elements. If we could prove that the basic rules work, then adding the human element will ensure maximum compatibility to all market situations, both regular and abnormal trading days.
So here it is, the 10 currency pairs we tested, using just the basic rules.
We were actually blown away by these results, and immediately knew we have something great in our hands.
How we tested
To achieve maximum reliability of the test results, we used clean and high quality tick data. “Tick Data” are the actual market quotes as they reached the metatrader platform in real time.
This method of using tick data for backtests is much more reliable than the usual “1 minute” data that most people use. Prices can change dramatically during a minute. Think of a news announcement for example. The market can jump up and down even more than 100 pips, while the “1 minute” data do not reflect it.
So we used tick data, which resulted in the Metatrader report displaying “99% Modelling Quality” as opposed to the usual 90% that you would get by using even the best of the 1 minute data.
In addition, we did the testing on our preferred broker, which is [USGFX], on our live account MT4 platform.
The period we tested mainly was the last three years. This gave a clear picture of how the strategy performs with the market conditions that we experienced during the last years. We did test on earlier years and got similar good results, however the market was very different back then, thus the results were less relevant, but still re-assuring.
The backtests shown below were done with recent data so you'll see the Triple B continues to perform well!
