Let me tell you a little bit about myself!

My Name is Lyndsay Gannon, I am 22 and I have suffered from many different eating disorders over the past decade. When i was young I was ALWAYS bullied through high school, I was over weight, I had braces I hated my body and everything about myself! This was at the age of 12! So you can imagine the impact this had on my confidence… in fact I didn’t have any confidence!
I loved to dance and swim, I always kept active but I had a bad relationship with food! To be completely honest with you I knew I was fat! And I got so upset when family or friends would say you need to watch what you eat!! Stop eating those sweets! I didn’t understand it at the time … but now I know that over eating is actually an illness, BUT THE GOOD NEWS! There is a cure!
From an over weight teen i took control! I was balanced fit healthy and happy. I then started to compete in body building and this is when things got pretty bad!
Bodybuilding is actually what the name promotes, body – building everything in my life was focused on “the body” every minute of the day I was thinking about what I needed to eat, what body part I needed to train… it created an unhealthy obsession with what I looked like and what I thought others would think of me! Constantly looking at images in magazines of girls with 8 packs.. wondering why no matter what I did I never looked like them… and if you watched the video above we now all know the behind production that goes on before we even get to see the final image!!
Is this creating a false goal for girls and women to aspire to ????
I believe so! And it needs to be recognized because eating disorders and body dismorphic disease are growing at an overwhelming speed!
I came across some studies that have been done recently…

NOW this is what gets me upset!
The few words that should never EVER be in a sentance together.. 10 year old and diet!
In my opinion… It is the media and marketing having an influence on these young girls… but to all the mum’s and sisters out there… Let me ask..
What example are YOU setting for your young ones???
Are you always going on a diet?
Talking about your body in a negative way? Because this is where they learn from! This is the age we need to be EDUCATING them about the media and installing beliefs into their brain that the images of models and celebritys in magazines and on tv IS NOT REALITY!
The last thing a 10 year old girl should be worried about is going on a diet!!! But reality is… most of them are!
So I am talking to my mum’s or sisters now – anyone who knows they have an influence on a younger girl!!
Does your daughter, sister, cousin, friend present any of the following
Eating very small portions or doesn’t eat at all Fear and anxiety about being fat Distorted body image Always asking for re- assurance before leaving the house Hiding food Eating in secret Disappearing after eating Depression Extremely moody Wearing bulky clothes Stomach cramps Missing menstrual cycles Sleep disturbances Dry skin Muscle weakness Cold hands and feet
If so I encourage that you firstly buy this book read it and educate yourself on eating disorders, how they can be treated and secondly take action and please pass the book onto someone who may be suffering from an eating disorder or depression.
I wish i could place this book in my hands AND my parents hands when i was sick!
A lot of girls who are suffereing, are suffering alone! And they feel that they cannot speak to anyone about it, ESPECIALLY their family because they are ashamed and embarrassed at what people will think!
