Painful Beginnings
Although I’d had a moderate amount of success combining my love of football and statistics, I had a problem…
Access to quick, reliable & relevant football statistics.
The statistics I found on the web were not in the format I needed to develop strategies effectively.
I was spending hours each day inputting statistics into my own databases which with a full-time job left me with very little time to actually analyse what the data was telling me!
My Big Break
In June 2013, Goal Profits added comprehensive football statistics to the member’s area of the website.
I immediately had access to a comprehensive set of football trading statistics for every team in over sixty leagues worldwide all year round.
The statistics are updated daily and I was able to quickly download the data and set about analysing it to identify profitable trading opportunities, either before kick-off or in-play.
My database grew to thousands of matches and after months of research I had created three winning strategies.

The Portfolio
Even the best trading strategies experience winning and losing streaks over time.
The key to minimising risk is to trade with a portfolio of strategies. It is unusual that a number of varied systems suffer difficult spells all at once, so my football trading portfolio is very stable.
I currently use four systems:-
Goal Before Half Time (gBht) Goal After Half Time (gAht) Under 2.5 Scalping (Under2.5) Loser At Half Time (LAHT)
gBht can be set up each morning and left to run with no attention whatsoever needed during the match. You can be shopping, watching TV, working, whatever life has in store for that particular day.
gAht requires you to simply lay the half-time score if the away team is leading. It takes literally seconds to place the lay and no further action is needed.
Under2.5 selections require some attention in-play. Just two trades though, a lay before kick-off then a green up. Very easy.
LAHT selections can be played in three different ways, all of which are profitable.
Set and Forget is the most aggressive way to play, Over 1.5 Scalping is the safest way to play and a Combination of the two is somewhere in-between.
1) Set and Forget: a bet is placed before Kick Off and left to run with no attention whatsoever needed during the match.
2) Over 1.5 Scalping: require some attention in-play. Just two trades though, a back before kick-off then a green up at Half Time. Very easy.
3) Combination: both methods are used with half liabilities for each.
Proven Results

I base my results on a maximum liability of £40.00 per trade so that it is affordable for anyone with a reasonable trading bank.

My Strategies In Detail
Goal Before Half Time (gBht)
Of the thousands of matches in my database 69.3% have had a goal scored before Half Time. If we had layed all of these we would have required an average lay price of 3.15 just to break even. My research has shown that the average lay price is approximately 3.35 so laying all of these would have resulted in a loss long-term.
Using probability statistics I have been able to increase the strike rate to 78.2% which would break even with an average lay price of 4.4 and show a very nice profit.
This is the basis of my selection criteria and gives me the matches I want to concentrate on.
I then apply additional filters to try and eliminate some of the losing trades while retaining as many of the winners as possible. My research has shown that the statistics are less effective in certain leagues and at certain times of the year, we have all seen unexpected results towards the end of the season where teams have little to play for and players have become fatigued.
These additional filters have increased the strike-rate to 84.5% and although inevitably reducing the number of selections we should still see an average of 30 trades per month all year round.
Nothing is ever certain in Football, but I believe that there is enough safety built into this approach to get us through any unexpected downturns and my aim would be to maintain a minimum strike rate of 80%.
Goal After Half Time (gAht)
Of the thousands of matches in my database 78.3% have had a goal scored after Half Time. If we had layed all of these we would have required an average lay price of 4.45 just to break even. My research has shown that the average lay price is approximately 4.85 so laying all of these would have resulted in a loss long-term.
Using probability statistics I have been able to increase the strike rate to 81.1% which would break even with an average lay price of 5.08 and show a small profit.
However, if we only trade in the matches where less than three goals have been scored before half time, the strike rate jumps to a massive 87.6% and breaks even at odds of 7.7.
This is the basis of my selection criteria and gives me the matches I want to concentrate on.
I then apply additional filters to try and eliminate some of the losing trades while retaining as many of the winners as possible.
These additional filters have increased the strike-rate to 94.8% and although inevitably reducing the number of selections we should still see an average of 25 trades per month all year round.
I believe that there is enough safety built into this approach to get us through any unexpected downturns and my aim would be to maintain a minimum strike rate of 87%.
Under 2.5 Scalping (Under2.5)
Goal Times were added to my statistics source at the beginning of August 2013 and I have been analysing the numbers since then. Using the probability of neither team scoring in the first 15 minutes and also not scoring more than 2.5 goal in the entire match, I’ve devised a selection formula that wins 80 % of the time.
This is the basis of my selection criteria and gives me the matches I want to concentrate on.
I then apply additional filters to try and eliminate some of the losing trades while retaining as many of the winners as possible.
These additional filters have increased the strike-rate to 83.9% and although inevitably reducing the number of selections we should still see an average of 20 trades per month all year round.
Profits and losses vary game to game and are dependent on the back and lay prices, but winning trades should average out at +15% and losing trades should average out at – 35%.
I believe that there is enough safety built into this approach to get us through any unexpected downturns and my aim would be to maintain a minimum strike rate of 80%.
Loser At Half Time (LAHT)
Of the thousands of matches in my database 57.3% have not been level at Half Time. If we had layed the Half Time Draw in all of these we would have required an average lay price of 2.20 just to break even. My research has shown that the average lay price is approximately 2.70 so laying all of these would have resulted in a loss long-term.
Using probability statistics I have been able to increase the strike rate to 77.8% which would break even with an average lay price of 4.16 and show a very nice profit at the average lay price of 2.70.
Nothing is ever certain in Football, but I believe that there is enough safety built into this approach to get us through any unexpected downturns and my aim would be to maintain a minimum strike rate of 75%.
