[]So here we are, it’s the holiday season and you have been working hard all year to stay healthy and lose a few pounds. It was working great. Well until now that is. It’s the holiday season now, the most dreaded time of the year for improve your weight and body composition.
So what are you going to do? Every year we are faced with this same choice. Do we stick to our guns, abstain from the holiday foods and continue our progress? Or do we give in, enjoy the foods, and deal with the fall out later?
What if we didn’t have to do that? What if there were some way we could eat the stuffing and have our fat loss too? Does this story sound familiar?
You have just started a new diet and exercise program. Everything is going great and the pounds seem to be falling off for the first couple weeks and months. But then something happened. You aren’t exactly sure when or how but somewhere along the line things started to slow down. The weight wasn’t coming off as fast anymore. Maybe it has already stopped altogether or even worse yet; you have put a little weight back on!
[]You are confused and you are not quite sure what is going on but you know you don’t like it. You don’t like it one bit. So you think to yourself, “Well if I cut my Calories down to 1300 per day and got this far, maybe I need to cut them even lower.”
So that’s what you do. You cut your daily Calorie intake even further and guess what? You start losing weight again. Hallelujah! All is great with the world again. But you and I both know the story is not over there. No, not by a long shot. Because it happens again.
So this time you reduce your Calorie intake again. Hey, if it has worked the last two times why not do it again right? So you do it again and again, each time the weight stops going down you subtract a few more Calories.
By now it’s the holiday season. Thanksgiving is upon you and you are worried. You have reduced yourself to about a can of soup per day. (True story by the way, had a member of mine reduce herself all the way to that point before I could convince her to stop). You know that when you go to Thanksgiving dinner there is no way that soup is the only thing on the menu. You have worked so hard to get to this point. But it’s not a good point.
Sure you have lost weight, but the weight loss has stopped again, you can’t take any more food out of your diet because there is literally nothing left. You are hungry all the time because the only thing you are eating is a can of friggin soup and worst of all, when you look in the mirror, you actually look worse than you did before.
So Thanksgiving Day gets here. You are starving, the aroma of amazing home cooked food fills the air and there is no escaping it. Everything smells fantastic and everyone else is eating and being merry and having a great time. Well except for you. You are obsessing about what you can and what you can’t eat. It is literally ruining your holiday and quite frankly everyone else’s too.
[]Then it happens! You are frustrated, upset, discouraged and you just laid your eyes on a cupcake. Duh duh duh (say it with the music). You know exactly what you are going to do. “Oh screw it, I want the friggin cupcake!” you say to yourself – and you eat it. Guess what? That was pretty much the most amazing thing you have tasted in you don’t know how long. Suddenly you become a different person. You can’t stop, that one cupcake wasn’t enough. You have another and another. Pretty soon you are raiding the cupboards like a savage animal trying to find some more of that blessed sugary goodness.
You eat and eat, and you don’t care. You have officially jumped off the bandwagon. You didn’t just jump off; you did a double axel sow cow with a perfect landing and gave it the finger. No you gave it both fingers. After that you go into a sugar induced high and eat the night away.
You wake up the next morning with a hangover. This time not from too much alcohol, but from too much sugar. You feel nauseous, you can’t see straight, and now you have to take “it.” You have to take the walk of shame. This time not like college, even though you may rather it be, this time you have to walk to the bathroom and step on the scale. How much damage did you do last night?
This is gruesome. You just undid months’ worth of dieting. You are guilty, your stomach is twisting and turning and writhing in pain because of the guilt (although a good portion of that might still be the sugar). You have a hollow feeling. You feel disappointed in yourself. What would your mother say to you?
“NO!” you say to yourself. “I am not going to do this.” So you don’t. You simply don’t get on the scale. You walk away and go about your day. But now you are feeling guiltier than ever. You have lost faith in yourself and you just kind of get through the rest of the day. Another failed diet. How could you let yourself do this again? Why can’t you just get results like everyone else? Why didn’t it work this time?
After about a day or two of this you finally snap. The pain of the guilt is unbearable. You need to know exactly how much damage you did. So you close your eyes and step on the scale. It’s time to face the piper. After a brief prayer and a saddened sigh, you open your eyes.

Over five years ago I was introduced to Justin and I can say ever since then I have had a different outlook on working out and eating right. There were, and still are, many times I come to class and laugh at Justin for what “he thinks” the workout is going to be that day. I think to myself there is NO way I can finish that whole workout in 30 minutes, if AT ALL!! Justin pushes you through it though and you feel AMAZING!! When I started this new fitness chapter in my life and my new goals of getting back into competitive fighting, I had a good idea about the impact of the importance of a good diet. Little did I know though just how much more I had to learn. Like allot of the new training techniques I was introduced to I was skeptical about the outcome. Justin and I spent allot of time discussing the importance of keeping a clean diet and making sure I ate plenty!!! My biggest hurdle with my diet was I wasn’t eating enough and it would stop my progress on the scale. Making sure that I hit my high calorie and carb days were the key. I weighed myself everyday for a month to track progress The only days I ever dropped weight was the day after my high calorie day every week like clockwork and maintained the rest of the week. I took allot from seeing this and opened my eyes even more to the nutrition side of creating a better me. Doesn’t matter how many workouts I put in a day or how intense they are if there isn’t a great diet plan to support it, your doing allot of work for very little results.
