Still standing in the same stance, both hands strike both sections of the nunchaku up to create 2 circles (2 times) at waist level.

Before starting self-defense technique number 1, I have a few important tips to share with you:
Almost all of the self defense techniques in this eBook start with a nature stance (please look at figure 1) before switch to another stance (please look at figure 2). Stance means the way you suppose to stand.
The position of attack means the target on your body in which the attacker aims for. For example, while you are standing still, the attacker delivers a straight punch toward your stomach. In this case, the position of attack is your stomach.

The distance the front foot, either the left foot or the right foot, steps forward equals to the distance the back foot follows but be sure to keep the same stance. Please look at Figure 3. Step forward is recommended when you are trying to block the attacker’s attack or when you are trying to counterattack. Step forward is use because the distance between you and the attacker is close or somewhat close to each other.

The distance the back foot, either the left foot or the right foot, steps backward equals to the distance the front foot follows but be sure to keep the same stance. Please look at Figure 4. Step backward is recommended when you are trying to avoid the attacker’s attack or when you do not want to participant in a conflict because the distance between you and the attacker is not close to each other.

The distance the front foot, either the left foot or the right foot, steps to the right equals to the distance the back foot follows but be sure to keep the same stance. Please look at Figure 5. Step to the right is recommended when you are trying to block the attacker’s attack or when you are trying to avoid the attacker’s attack. Counterattack is optional depending on the situations. Step to the right is used when the distance between you and the attacker is close or somewhat close to each other.

The distance the front foot, either the left foot or the right foot, steps to the left equals to the distance the back foot follows but be sure to keep the same stance. Please look at Figure 6. Step to the left is recommended when you are trying to block the attacker’s attack or when you are trying to avoid the attacker’s attack. Counterattack is optional depending on the situations. Step to the left is used when the distance between you and the attacker is close or somewhat close to each other.

All of the techniques in this eBook involve self-defense; which mean blocking or avoiding the attacker’s attack and then counterattack. Counterattack is only use when your life is in danger and you have no other option.
