This is the story of us, an average suburban family, and how we saved
for and planned our Family Gap Year. We share our real work practical
experience of how we planned and prepared for our Family Gap Year,
what worked, and importantly, what didn't work
One might ask: in a daily routine of living from one dirty nappy to
the next, how can it be possible to slam on the brakes and take a
different direction?
Whether it is to travel around the world with your young family, or
to restore a classic car with your son or to run a beach bar on a
tropical island – only YOU can make it happen. And once you start,
it’s not that hard. Things fall into place and the road to El Dorado
unfolds in front of you.
The hardest part is making that decision to do it, to go on a Family
Gap Year. From there this book will show you how to plan for your
Family Gap Year. All you have to do is make sure you're at the airport
on time, ready to make your dream come true.
Whatever it is you want to do, if you are convinced that this is your
heart’s desire, simply ‘get on it’. We did, and it has changed
our lives - we lived our dream - and are already planning our next

similar dream. Some days I still cannot believe we are actually DOING
this! This is one exciting roller coaster ride that I am only too
happy to share.

Hi, Im Sonja, an Australian mother of two, Ava (3) and Max (2). My
husband, Byron, and I placed our careers on hold to make our dream
come true - we planned for a year and took a Family Gap Year and
traveled across Europe. With thousands of research hours under the
belt, we share the knowledge, real world experiences and tips we
